The Abia State Chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Thursday, officially kicked off her electioneering Campaigns for the 2023 general elections with the G5 integrity Governors in attendance.
The event which witnessed a mammoth crowd of party loyalists and faithful of the People’s Democratic Party was attended by Former Governor of Ekiti State Mr Ayodele Fayose,Abia Deputy Governor Sir Ude Oko Chukwu,PDP National Vice Chairmen of South East and South South, Mr Ali Odefa and Alhaji Taofik Arakpaja.
Others include the Speaker, Abia House of Assembly Chief Chinedum Orji, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa,PDP Governorship candidate Prof Uche Ikonne,his running mate Chief Okey Igwe and a host of party stakeholders.
PDP Candidates who would represent the party in next year’s general elections including Governor Okezie Ikpeazu,Sen Col. Austin Akobundu,Nnenna Ukeje,Barr. ACB Agbazuere among others were equally presented with the party’s flag.
Speaking at the event held at the Umuahia Township Stadium, Abia State Governor Ikpeazu and candidate for Abia South Senatorial District, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu noted that the mammoth crowd at the ceremony was a confirmation of the fact that there is no other political party in the state apart from the PDP.
He expressed confidence that all candidates of the PDP would sweep the polls in the coming elections adding that candidates of the party are saleable and generally acceptable.
Ikpeazu who reeled out the achievements of his administration in areas such as road infrastructure, establishment of Enyimba Economic City,among others,said that the state under his leadership has laid a solid foundation for the take off of a more prosperous Abia.
“We have a list of things we have done in all spheres of human endeavors. We are going to bequeath for the first time, a 30 year developmental plan for Abia State. This was not there before. We are going to bequeath a master plan for Aba, Umuahia and Ohafia.
“We are also going to bequeath an industrial plan. We are bequeathing roads that will last at least 30 years and we think the incoming administration will build on that”.
In his speech, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike assured that the G5 intergrity Group will support the ambition of PDP Candidates in the state and urged Abians to vote for Professor Uche Ikonne and other PDP Candidates whom he described as people of impeccable character.
He said that the G5 intergrity Group are fearless and undeterred in their quest for justice, Equity and fairness in the activities of the PDP and described Governor Ikpeazu as a dependable ally and a man of great intergrity.
In their goodwill messages, the Governors of Enugu state Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, his Benue State Counterpart Samuel Ortom and Governor of Oyo State Seyi Makinde restated that the G5 intergrity Govermors will always stand by justice, equity and truth.
The Governors said they came to support and complement Governor Okezie Ikpeazu who has done well in all facets of the state economy and regretted that Nigeria under the present administration has been bedevilled with insecurity and economic quagmire, adding that they are committed to leading Nigeria out of her present predicament.
Also,the State PDP Governorship Candidate, Professor Uche Ikonne said that the next PDP administration is bringing onboard a tiger economy and participatory Governance that will engender more growth and development in the state.
In their separate speeches,the state PDP Chairman, Chief Asiforo Okere and the DG PDP Campaign Council Chief Chinedum Elechi,represented by the Secretary, Chief Stanley Ojigbo said that the flag off ceremony is a culmination of the activities of the last two weeks which featured rallies in the 184 wards of the state, noting that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has laid a solid foundation that will lead to the overall victory of the party in the state.
