2022 Aro-Day: Nzuko Arochukwu Worldwide To Unveil 1st Alvan Ikoku Education Colloquium Reports, Dec 26

The Planning Committee of 2022 Aro Day on behalf of Eze Aro in Council and the President -General of Nzuko Arochukwu Worldwide said arrangements have been concluded to unveil the 1st Dr Alvan Ikoku Education Colloquium Report as part of activities marking this year’s celebration which kicks off December 26, 2022

It would also inaugurate Aro Education Development Trust Fund and launch the 1st Phase of Aro Education Trust Fund during the ceremony.

A statement by the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Sir Chijioke Oti and Secretary, Dr Onyema Edward which was made available to our correspondent in Uyo on Friday, said the theme of this year’s celebration is “Education in Aro: Time for Action”

According to the statement, the event would afford leaders the opportunity to render account of their stewardship as well as provide all Umu-Aro within the country and diaspora, the opportunity to develop strategies of funding Education and Skill Acquisition programs to the benefit of downtrodden in the society especially the Aros.

The statement reads in part “Aro-Day is a day where Aro descendants no matter where they are domiciled, review their contributions to development of the World especially Nigeria and the Kingdom. Aros gather on this day to celebrate their heritage, culture, togetherness.

“The highlights of the program for December 26th, 2022 Aro-Day includes: Unveiling of 1st Dr Alvan Ikoku Education Colloquium Report; Inauguration of Aro Education Development Trust Fund and Launching of N100m 1st Phase of the N500m Aro Education Development Trust Fund”

Additional Information from Eze-Aro Palace stated further that,the annual ritual which started in 1981 through a royal proclamation by His Majesty, Mazi Kanu Oji, Eze-Aro has contributed to the advancement of education in the state and others

‘In 1981, a royal proclamation by His Majesty, Mazi Kanu Oji, Eze-Aro declared December 26th every year “Aro-Day.” On Aro-Day, no other events like Burials, Birthday, Wedding, Football Competition etc. is allowed to hold.

“The first Aro-Day was celebrated at Obinkita Hall, in Arochukwu Kingdom.This annual ritual (Aro-Day) has contributed to: Building and donation of Abia State Collage of Education Technical, Arochukwu in 1992; the centenary commemoration of British-Arochukwu War in 2002; mobilizing support for Aro communities, Building of Aro Cultural and Civic Center in 2017, Unifying event to attract the new generation to their ancestral land, etc.” The statement said.
