The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed its preliminary lists of nominees for the 2019 African men’s and women’s Player of the Year awards.
30 names have been revealed for the men’s category, with 10 of the nominees playing in the English Premier League.
Among the shortlisted players are Nigerian trio of Jude Odion Ighalo of Shanghai Shenhua, who emerged the top scorer in this year’s AFCON, Victor Osimhen of Lille of France and Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester City of England.
Three Nigerians also made the women shortlist. They are Asisat Oshoala of Barcelona, Chiamaka Nnadozie of Rivers Angels and Uchenna Kanu of Southeastern Fire.
Samuel Chukwueze of Villarreal and Victor Osimhen of Lille made the list for African Young Player of the year.
Gernot Rohr made the list for Men’s Coach of the Year just as Thomas Dennerby, former coach of the Super Falcons made the Women Coach of the Year shortlist.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Super Falcons both made the shortlist for the Africans Men and Women National Team of the Year respectively.
