2019 AFCON: Super Eagles Cruise into Semi-finals

The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Bafana Bafana of South Africa 2-1 to become the second team to qualify for the semi-finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations as the Teranga lions of Senegal had earlier qualified after defeating the Squirrels of Benin Republic by a lone goal.

Nigeria took a 1-0 lead into the break as Samuel Chukwueze put the West Africans ahead on the 27th minute after he followed his first shot that was blocked by an opponent to shoot into the bottom right corner of South Africa’s net.

South Africa’s equalizer was confirmed by the VAR as it seemed Bongani Zungu was off-sight when his 71st minute glancing header curled into helpless Daniel Akpeyi’s goal.

One minute to full time, William Troost-Ekong was on hand to knock in Moses Simon’s corner kick after Williams, who was in goal for South Africa failed to catch or punch the ball away.
