2019 AFCON: Nigeria, South Africa Rekindle Rivalry

The Super Eagles of Nigeria and Bafana Bafana of South Africa will rekindle their rivalry, which have spanned over 25 years, when the clash in the quarter finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations at the Cairo International Stadium, in Egypt.

Nigeria qualified for the quarter finals after they eliminated defending champions, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 3-2, while South Africa kicked the host, Egypt out by a lone goal.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have met South Africa 13 times. Nigeria won five times while South Africa has won twice. They have ended five encounters in a draw.

Today’s first quarter-finals will be between the Teranga Lions of Senegal and the Squirrels of Benin Republic at the 30 June Stadium.
