2019 AFCON: More Coaches Lose Their Job

The 32nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations will come to an end on Friday with the Teranga Lions of Senegal and the Desert Foxes of Algeria at the Cairo International Stadium, yet many coaches have already lost their jobs.

The Brave Warriors of Namibia’s coach Ricardo Mannetti’s contract was not renewed after the country lost all three group games.

The 44-year-old Mannetti departed after five years in charge of Namibia, and have been replaced by Bobby Samaria.

The Taifa Stars of Tanzania have also parted ways with their Nigerian coach Emmanuel Amunike, who qualified them for the Africa Cup of Nations after 39 years.

Tanzania lost all three group matches to Senegal, Algeria and Kenya.

The host, Egypt, who were one of the favorites to win the competition were eliminated in the round of 16 by the Bafana Bafana of South Africa,

Consequently, their head coach Aguirre was fired,

The Cranes of Uganda qualified for the round of 16 behind Egypt but were eliminated by the Teranga Lions of Senegal. Their coach Sebastien Desabre was fired by the Ugandan Football Federation.

Paul Put, who took Guinea, to the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, was fired by the football authorities in Guinea.

The Belgian, who had been in the job for 16 months, is now back to the labor market.

Many more coaches will go as most African teams re-strategize ahead of the commencement of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
