The National Zoning Committee of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP has given reasons why it zoned the National Chairmanship of the party to the North, saying it was in the interest of equity and fairness.
The Committee membership which comprised of state Governors from the party observed that the zoning of the offices of the party has traditionally been between the Northern and Southern parts of the country.
In a communique issued at the end of its meeting held in Enugu and Abuja dated 30th Sept and jointly signed by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Chairman), Governor Samuel Orthom (Deputy Chairman) and Gov Mahdi Aliyu Mohammed, disclosed that the committee was given the mandate to zone national offices to be contested by all PDP members at the national convention of the party scheduled for October 30-31, 2021.
The committee said it’s mandate does not include zoning of the offices of the president, vice president and other executive and legislative offices of the republic of Nigeria.
Part of the communique reads: “the decision of the PDP zoning committee is inline with the constitution of the party on zoning and rotation of party and national offices in the interest of justice, equity and fairness.
“Consequently, the current offices being held by officers in the southern zones of the country namely; South West, South East and South South zones should swap places with the offices currently on the northern zones of Nigeria namely, North West, North East and North Central”.
They thanked leadership of the party especially the National Executives that set up the committee for finding them worthy to serve the party in the capacity as zoning committee members.
According to the the communique, the PDP National Zoning committee disclosed that it would pass on its recommendations to the national executive committee of the party through its National Working Committee(NWC).
