The wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti
The Safe Tent Care Initiative Foundation, led by the wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has empowered 1,000 indigent school children in the state with essential school materials in its Back- to- School outreach programme.
The children received items such as school bags, exercise books, math sets, colour pencils, food flasks, and water bottles to support their return to school.
Mrs. Otti, who is also the foundation’s President, said the initiative aims to ease the burden on parents and ensure children return to school prepared.
She emphasized that education is everyone’s responsibility and called on all stakeholders to join hands in ensuring every Abia child gets quality education.
“This is just the first edition of our Back-to-School outreach, and we are committed to expanding it until every school child in Abia is reached. It aligns with Governor Otti’s vision of free and compulsory education for all,” she said.
She appreciated the support of the Abia State Ministry of Education and the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) for partnering in the initiative, which she said brings much needed relief to parents.
Advising the beneficiaries, Mrs. Otti urged the children to value the materials as tools to improve themselves through learning.
In her remarks, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Maureen Aghukwa, praised Mrs. Otti’s commitment to education, noting it reflects the government’s focus on securing a better future for Abia children.
ASUBEB Chairperson, Mrs. Lydia Onuoha, described the gesture as a major relief for mothers and promised continued collaboration to create a conducive learning environment.
Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Ngozi Felix, and Basic Education Commissioner, Elder Goodluck Ubochi represented by Mr. Kenechukwu Nwosu, said the outreach goes beyond material aid it restores the dignity of education and renews hope for children across the state.
