“The Aba Rebuild Agenda of the State Government is very much on course.Aba is wearing a new look and the State Government is not relenting.

“It is only early days for Aba quite a lot will happen.

“The Governor has given matching order that that the Enyimba Hotel Project should run very fast and i can assure you that in less than 24 months, that structure will be there for use by the public.

“All these efforts are to make Aba wear a new look as the economic nerve center of the State and of course the business hub of the South Eastern Nigeria”, the Commissioner disclosed.

He said that plans are in place to procure the Eziama Link Bridge in Aba adding that when completed, the bridge would enhance the City’s road network, ease movement and position Aba as a model of economic growth and development in Nigeria.

Contributing, the Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna, said that all paper works and other arrangements delaying the formal commencement of the Construction of the new Enyimba International Hotel Aba have been sorted out culminating in the planned signing of MOU with the investor.

He said that, “customarily to International Commercial agreements, we (Government) have to go through all the clauses to be sure that all the clauses in that agreement are favourable for Abians.

“The Governor has been trying to ensure that the agreement was signed in December but because of the protracted negotiations between the Abia State Legal Team and the team of the Investors who are coming to manage the facility, it became a bit protracted.

“That was why we did not close the transaction in December but right now we are Ninety Percent done with most of the terms and I’m sure that by February 9th, we would be signing off on that agreement.

“So we are up to the final point, I assure all Abians that the terms of agreements are in-line with his Excellency’s vision of ensuring that Abia state gets maximum benefits for every relationship the Government enters into”.

Also, the General Manager, Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA) Mr Uche Ukeje noted that the construction of the Enyimba International Hotel would be consumated through the signing of MOU by the Radisson Blu,an international investor in the hospitality industry

The GADA Boss announced that plans are on top gear to establish a Mega leisure park and other parks in Aba and Umuahia and added that discussions are on to close down illegal markets in Aba and its environs.

“We are resolutely committed to right the wrong of the past and justify the confidence of the Abia public, who believed in the reality of our promises and partnered actively with us to institute a new governance philosophy one that places the people and social status of the state at the core of its undertakings”, the Governor stated.

Abia state Governor, Dr Alex Otti has officially inagurated the newly constructed University Road, Green Avenue, and College Roads in Aba with a pledge to transform the commercial hub of the state into a modern, functional city.

Speaking during ceremony, Governor Otti emphasized that the commissioning represents the 15th road project completed by the current administration in Aba alone within his one year in office.

“We are glad to be delivering the 15th road in ABA. By the time we commission this roads, we would have commissioned 15 new roads that we took on, retrofitted, remodelled, redesigned and and rebuilt”, he said.

The Governor highlighted the strategic importance of the newly commissioned roads, noting their economic relevance as well as improved connectivity to the area.

Governor Otti who disclosed that the roads were one of first set of roads awarded by his administration, noted that for decades, the area was notorious for severe flooding, which transformed the streets into rivers during heavy rains.

He further revealed that the road was redesigned with drainage system and an underground tunnel to channel storm water into the Aba river, which has resolved the long-standing issues of flooding in the area.

“People who are used to this place will tell you their story and how the road has been for decades.

“When you see people dancing, when you see them expressing joy, when you see them rejoicing, it is because of what they have been going through and we thank God that today, the story is different”, Gov Otti remarked.

The Governor outlined several ongoing projects nearing completion to include Cemetery Road, the Dual Carriageway Omuma Road; which he said would be ready within one month, Pepple Road, and various roads in the World Bank, Umungasi, and Umule areas, all expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Gov Otti assured that work is progressing smoothly on the major Port Harcourt Road, as well as on Ohanku, Ndoki, Ekeakpara and the once impassable Obuohia Road.

He urged residents to protect the road infrastructure and ensure proper disposal of waste.

“Like I said, what we have come here to do is to fix our place, your own responsibility is to ensure that you protect these assets.

“We don’t want to come here and see the solar lights has a problem not to talk of disappearing. Days are gone when we will tolerate garbage on our roads so my request to you is to help me implement it”, Otti stated.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Otumchere Oti, described the construction of various road projects as a clear evidence that Governor Otti recognizes the importance of infrastructure for development.

Engr. Oti, while commending the present administration, stated that the Governor has prioritized the provision of infrastructure and road networks.

He added that the roads are equipped with street lights to enhance security and welfare for the people among other assets.

Abia State Government says there is no truth in a recently circulating video on social media that storm water washed off one of the new roads recently constructed by the administration of Governor Alex Otti.

The Commissioner for Works, Abia State, Engr. Don Otumchere Oti, stated this while inspecting the ongoing reconstruction of Pepples Road and other roads in Aba.

Commissioner for Works while inspecting the road project

Engr. Oti, who conducted journalists round some of the project sites in Aba, said that no section of the Pepples Road, which is still under construction, was washed off by rain water.

The Commissioner explained that the section of the road work affected by storm water was only the part where loose stone base was laid without protection.

“As you can see, the road was not washed off. The area impacted by the storm water is the section that has not been protected. Even at that you can see the road standing solidly. We have gone round and we have taken note of some aspects of the work to improve upon to further protect the road.

“We just had stone base on the road and you know this is a loose material and if you have this loose material and there is a flood on it, what do you expect that would happen? The flood would carry the material. So, the road is still under construction.

“When you look at the road, you can see that the flood is coming from the right hand side, and I have just seen that the catchment area of the drain that is servicing this area is very large. So we will address the issue and make sure that this kind of thing doesn’t happen again.

“I am here to inspect it personally and to see whether there is anything necessary for us to do to make sure this doesn’t occur again. Obviously we have seen it and we are going to apply necessary remedial measures to ensure that in future, we don’t have this kind of problem. But of course, the problem would not have arisen if the road had been completed.

.

“This is just a loose material. It’s not protected. By the time we complete the road and ensure that all the sections are protected this kind of thing cannot happen,” the Commissioner enunciated.

Engr. Oti, who traced the problem of the flooding to the large catchment area of the access, assured of measures by the state government to ensure the road was properly done.

According to the Commissioner, “The catchment area of this road is very large. The water that is coming from the right hand side is carrying a lot of rubbish to this place. If you look at the right hand side, you will see all the things the flood is bringing from various places. So, it is another thing we need to watch”.

He described as unfortunate the attitude of some individuals who are alleging that the road had been washed off, saying that they obviously never knew how terrible the experience of the residents was before Governor Otti directed that the road be reconstructed.

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has appreciated the efforts of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for constructing the
Nwaobasi ring road-Ehere in Obingwa LGA and other Federal roads in the state aimed at boosting the local economy.

Governor Makinde who was speaking during the commissioning of the Federal Road constructed by the Ikpeazu administration said the project has brought development to the area in addition to boosting trade and commercial activities.

He recalled that as a regular user of the road 25 years ago, the Nwaobasi road was in a deplorable state, adding that the governor has shown true leadership and love for the people by embarking on its construction.

Governor Makinde while describing his Abia state counterpart as a leading light, said Aba is the manufacturing hub of Nigeria that requires greater attention pointing out that the Governor had encouraged manufactures in the state through solid economic policies.

According to Governor Makinde, the southern part of Nigeria should be given its due recognition in the Nigeria project with more powers given to the states to enable them develop at their own pace adding that the PDP should take the lead in the clamour for restructuring to fast track development.

In his speech, the Governor,Dr Okezie Ikpeazu recalled the dilapidated state of the road before its construction, saying that despite being a federal road, it was impossible for people to move from Ehere to Opobo junction by any means.

“Before now, it was impossible for one to ply either by treking or by road, or by any means whatsoever despite that it is a federal government road.

“We intervened on this road so that we can ease commerce and trade and improve the livelihood of those who depend on that market for sustainance.

“What we are showcasing to the world represent our strategic thinking in terms of enabling free flow of traffic in and out of Aba and around our state.

“This road is an important economic byepass as well as a road that will serve the teaming population that reside in this place. This attempt to do an asphalted road on Nwaobasi is the first attempt by any government since the creation of old Imo state.

“I have a deep sense of personal fulfillment that i have been able to touch lives that were hitherto forgotten.

“The essence of politics and governance is to bring democracy dividends to the people. Government and governance will be useless and meaningless if you cannot change the narrative and touch the lives of the ordinary people. We are happy that the first asphalted road in Nwaobasi today was done by us”.

The Commissioner for Works, Dr Bob Ogu said the road was done to decongest traffic as a link and alternative road to Ikot- Ekpene, Umuahia and Owerri.

In his remarks, the Chairman Abia state Council of Traditional Rulers Eze Joseph Nwabeke noted that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has constructed over 150 roads so far, adding that the recently commissioned first Abia Interchange at Osisioma has transformed the aesthetics of Aba environment into Dubai status.

Residents of the area including Rev Paulinus Ngele of the Assemblies Of God Church Ehere Aba, noted that the church had lost many members due to the dilapidated nature of the road in the past and thanked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for coming to their rescue by reconstructing the road and prayed God to keep using his administration in changing the narratives.

In continuation of his Kinetic Abia Project,Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has Commissioned the newly constructed 1st Phase of the Amaorji Junction- Abayi Isi Court Road in Isiala Ngwa North LGA as well as flagged off the construction of the 2nd phase of the road project.

Speaking at the event,Governor Ikpeazu expressed happiness that the first phase of the project has become a reality and assured that the second phase of the project would be completed in record time.

He urged the people to disregard the insinuation from the opposition who claim that the road would be abandoned, saying that his adminstration will not relent in its resolve to deliver democracy dividends to the people.

He thanked the people of Isiala Ngwa North LGA for solidly supporting his administration adding that he is encouraged to do more by the outpouring of love from the people.

The Governor urged the people to nurture and care for the road adding that it would be a great disservice to members of the community and those who will use the road if they decide to burn tires or erect illegal barricades on the road.

On the request of the people that the proposed Ntigha Dry Port comes to fruition, Governor Ikpeazu said; “I have listened carefully and I’ve heard your desire and aspiration to put into fruition and reality our proposed Dry Port. I want to say to you that we prefer the Dry Port project to other projects because we know that it will touch the lives of 95% of our people.

“The Dry Port project falls squarely at the centre of our efforts to create a better life for our people through enhancement of Trade and Commerce and promotion of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises.

“I know that over 70 percent of the goods that come to Apapa Wharf belong to our brothers and sisters who are doing business and trading in Aba, therefore there could be no better gift than to present to them before the completion of this tenure a Dry Port of final destination from where they can clear their goods and export the shoes and the garments we are already making in Aba.

“I therefore say to you that i am perhaps more desperate that the good people of Isiala Ngwa North to bring that project to fruition. That project will not only serve the people within this economic eco system, it will serve Ndi Igbo, Nigerians at large and will be the first project of this kind in the entire Eastern geo political zone.

“I will therefore deploy every resource that is within me to ensure that we deliver that project to the glory of God”.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Works, Elder Bob Ogu disclosed that the Governor has developed a template with which roads are flagged off and commissioned, disclosing that a new date for the commissioning of the Osisioma flyover will be made known soon.

He said the roads built in the State has at least 20 years guarantee and asked the benefiting communities to protect the road and ensure that no bonfire is set on the road.

Earlier in an address the Executive Chairman, Isialangwa North, Mr. Chinwendu Ochiulo thanked the Governor for his Infrastructural Projects across the area, especially opening up of rural roads and appealed to him to fix the Okpuala Ngwá Mbawsi road as well as expedite action on the commencement of the Ntigha Dry Port Project.

In her speech, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs Mrs. Joy Nwanju informed that the road project is an intervention project initiated in 2019 and expressed happiness that its first phase is being commissioned by the Governor, who equally is the initiator.

Other stakeholders, including the former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Christopher Enweremadu and the Commissioner representing Isialangwa North & South in ASOPADEC, Chief Uzoma Ihuka said the road has been a nightmare and remained unaccessible for the past 25 years and expressed gratitude to the Governor for constructing the road as well as his other numerous projects which has created multiple chains of employment for the people.

They requested that the proposed Dry Port project be made operational as it would open the economy of the State and increase revenue generation and create massive employment opportunities for youths of the area.

Abia State Commissioner for Information,Chief John Okiyi Kalu has said that the present adminstration under the leadership of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu places utmost priority on economically viable roads with a bid to promoting Trade and Commerce in the state.

The Commissioner stated this at the commissioning of the Immaculate Heart Road, constructed by the Ikpeazu adminstration which was done with rigid pavement technology.

He noted that road infrastructure is very important to the Ikpeazu administration as it would create a better life for the people and promote Trade and Commerce in the state.

The Information Boss reiterated that the present administration is committed to bringing democracy dividends to Abia people adding that the strategy of massive road construction in Abia is aimed at pushing the frontiers of development in all facets of the State economy.

He said: “In Abia we prioritize economically important roads and Immaculate Heart Road is one of them.

“This road leads to Umungasi market and also leads to a cluster of resident areas in the city where our people do business and we think that we can stretch this road all the way across the waterside river and do another bridge that will head to Ogbor Hill while a spot from here will also lead to Star Paper Mill”.

Okiyi noted that the state Government will also ensure the completion of Omuma and Ngwa Roads which he described as key roads in Aba,the commercial nerve center of the state.

The Commissioner expressed belief that additional 250 kilometer roads will be delivered to rural communities in the state.

He appealed to residents and business owners around the area to ensure adequate maintenance of the road and avoid waste disposal in the drainages while applauding the contractor for a job well done.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Obingwa Local Government Area, Hon. Michael Ibe Nwoke who was elated at the quality of road which he said was in a very deplorable condition before now urged residents of the road to also ensure that the road is maintained.

Hon. Nwoke noted that the road is economically viable and expressed belief that many business which were once moribund will bounce back.

He noted that Government has done it’s part by providing a conducive environment for residents and business owners adding that it is now left for users to ensure adequate care which he explained will ensure the longevity of the road.

Akwa-Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel has applauded the his Abia state counterpart, Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu for providing quality road construction across the state as well as creating link roads to major economic zones between the two neighboring states.

Governor Udom was speaking, Friday while commissioning the recently constructed 9.3 kilometers Osokwa-Aro Umuejie-Omoba Road built by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s administration.

The road which transverses Osisioma and Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Areas of Abia state, also connects to neighboring Akwa-Ibom state and will promote Trade and Commerce between both states.

He said: “Today we are all here because Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is a successful Governor. I am proud of him.

“My brother I really appreciate you for what you are doing. We are proud of you. PDP Governors, the PDP family and your people are proud of you. We are all appreciating you for what you have done.

“I am already overwhelmed by the encomiums that all the stakeholders here have poured on you. There are certain things you do in life and those things will speak for themselves no matter what.

“We must identify with good things. When you see us tag along, we tag along with good things because they say; Show me your friend and I will tell you who you are. So let me encourage him.

“I drove for some kilometers to this venue without encountering not even one pothole. That can only be found in a PDP state. He ( Governor Ikpeazu) came to serve the people and do the will of God and we are partners in progress.

The Akwa-Ibom state Governor urged Governor Ikpeazu not to be distracted by naysayers but remain focused in delivering democracy dividends to the people of Abia State.

“If they speak well of you it means you’re not doing well because if you’re doing the right thing you cannot impress everybody so allow people to say what they want to say but continue with your work. You know their duty is to distract you but your own is to stay focused and get the job done” he said.

Governor Udom who disclosed that his administration in Akwa Ibom State constructed a 160 metres road to linking Akwa Ibom to Arochukwu, in Abia State, advised Abians to be patient with the Ikpeazu adminstration and support him to achieve success adding that development cannot be done over night as it takes time.

Also speaking, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu noted that the Osokwa-Aro Umuejie-Omoba road is of great economic importance to the state and serves as link to many towns and States including Umuahia, Aba, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.

Gov Ikpeazu noted the road would improve on the economic advancement of Akwa Ibom and Abia and called for more unity and harmonious relationship between the two states.

He said he has learnt a lot from his Akwa Ibom State counterpart, who he described as a transgenerational leader, hence his invitation to him to commission the road.

Some of the residents who spoke in an interview with National Ambassador including Mr Nnadozie Cajetan, Mrs Promise Nwagba, Joy Anayo, and Mr Uche Nwoke said they were delighted at completion of the road because of the strategic role it would play in boosting socio- economic activities in Aba.

They described the completion of the road as a welcome development which had brought a huge relief to the residents of the area adding that the deplorable state of Osusu road had in the past crippled business activities in the area and caused residents to experience untold hardship.

Also, some motorists including Mr JohnPaul Okereke and Mr George Kalu commended Governor Ikpeazu for deploying adequate resources for the reconstruction of the road as well as the use of rigid cement technology to ensure its durability.

They expressed happiness over the return of social and commercial activities to the area after most businesses had gone moribund as a result of the bad state of the road.

In her contribution, a trader Mrs Ngozi Ubani said that the road was abandoned and got so bad to a point that people were cultivating crops on some portions while other parts of the road was waterlogged and with over-grown grasses and lauded the state government for giving residents a sense of belonging by repairing the road.

Speaking at the ceremony Governor Okezie Ikpeazu expressed delight at the completion of the road, noting that the Osusu road is of great socio economic significant value to Aba, and the general economy of the state as it is a gateway to the famous Ariaria International Market.

The Governor recalled that prior to the reconstruction of the road, economic activities in the area as well as human and vehicular movements were crippled, adding that the gesture has restored the means of livelihood of the people.

While noting that the era of Dubai roads is gone in the state, Ikpeazu said the Rigid Pavement Technology adopted in the construction of roads in Abia is to ensure durability and prolong the lifespan of the roads adding that the technology is the state government’s standard in road construction.

He also assured that the Okigwe,Ojike, Cemetery and Milverton roads among other ongoing road Projects in Aba will be completed and commissioned soon.

The Governor who directed the Commissioner for Works and other supervisors involved, to immediately fast track the ongoing work on Ngwa road within the next four weeks or risk being relieved of their duties, also urged residents of Osusu road to set up a task force to protect the road against vandalism.

Expressing worry on the slow Pace of work at Ngwa road due to the construction of tunnel on the road, the governor revealed that work is ongoing at Ohanku and Obohia roads.

Commissioning the road, Catholic Papal Nuncio and Head, Diplomatic Missions to Trinidad, Tobago and the Carribeans,Most Reverend Fotunatus Nwachukwu noted that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has through his various developmental projects written his name in gold adding that the arrays of projects executed by the Governor speaks volume of the welfarist nature of the present administration,a disposition he said has put the Governor’s detractors to shame.

In his speech, the Commissioner for Works Dr Bob Ogu urged the residents to stand against any act that could reduce the lifespan of the road.

The Project Contractor,Mr Uzoma Onuoha Earlier, Mr Uzoma Onuoha, the Project Contractor, described the state of Osusu road, before the reconstruction work commenced on the road, as an “eyesore” which was practically a dump site adding that the road was not passable and was only accessed through Okigwe road.

“The were six illegal refuse dump sites on the road and we started carting away those refuse. It took a lot of work and resources to clear the rubbish.

“Also, we excavated up to two metres depth, before we got to the red mud and started sand filling in order to get the concrete pavement done,” Onuoha said.

Governor Ikpeazu thereafter flagged off the reconstruction of Omuma road Aba and inspected the progress of work in some ongoing road projects including Ngwa and Milverton roads.

When you live in Aba, when you have interactions with owners of the thousands of small scale businesses that thrive in the city, when you imagine that there are well over 60 streets adjoining Ngwa Road whose inhabitants have hardly breathed for well over 25 years, you will appreciate the enormity of econonic advantages, reconstructing Ngwa Road is. Come with me!

Road construction is by far, one of the commonest things a government could perform as duty to the people. The narrative changes when a road that is home to the largest “second hand cloth” (Okirika) Market, gateway to the most skillfull fabricators and the proponents of industry, becomes impassable for decades. At a time like this, Road construction excites an unusual feeling of awe and bewilderment. This is exactly how thousands of artisans and residents of Ngwa Road feel at this point.

I am excited because Okezie Victor Ikpeazu Ph.D has once again demonstrated that he understands how to prioritise tackling the myriad of challenges called ABA. I am excited that given the paucity of funds, prudence becomes a veritable virtue in governance. The reconstruction of Ngwa Road will give further impetus to the thriving small businesses that have long been extinguished by infrastructural deficit.

Ikpeazu may not have solved half of Aba’s problems as far as road infrastructure is concerned. However, history will appreciate him for being decisive, thorough and detailed in his choice of road construction. By this singular gesture, he has opened a new vista for hundreds of thousands of people living at Mbaise, Item, Ogwo, Elvina, Agharandu,Dikenafai,
Harden, Akoli, Okoro,
Igwebuike, Agu,
Iheaorji, College, Amucha, Ibere, Agharandu, Ibadan,Victoria, Igwilo, Umuosi, Emejieka, Dike
Onyembi, Umunkama,
Owerriaba, Ajah, Okoro, Akoli, Agulanna Roads just to mention but a few. Ikpeazu has rescued thousands of businesses that had long gone moribund because Ngwa Road became embarrassingly dilapidated.

The story of Ikpeazu’s silent, yet remarkable revolution may defy logic because at a time people are looking for quick wins to achieve cheap political points, Okezie is investing in only those areas that have the capacity to place Aba back as the Economic Capital of the South East.

At the risk of repeating myself, I do know that a Governor that conceived the idea of sourcing for N27b to reconstruct Ngwa, Ohanku and Obohia Roads is unapologetically thinking of the next generation. Little by little, Okezie’s exhibition of amazing political will and the knack to recover all those roads that seemed intractable will set him apart from others. I am optimistic that, when (not if) this trend is sustained, Ikpeazu shall have provided the overriding incentive to the larger Aba populace to bounce back to reckoning.

Ngwa Road represents what resilience and steadfastness can add to governance. It is clear that the end holds a promise of Hallelujah. I am also trying to imagine an Aba with Osusu, Omuma, Ukaegbu, Umuola, Umule, Owerri, Ohanku,Ngwa, Obohia, Portharcourt Roads just to mention but a few. When Ikpeazu is done, the narrative must change and the entrepreneurial face of Aba will shine brightest yet.

Ikpeazu, who handed down the warning Wednesday, in Aba, while inspecting the Ojike Bypass, as part of his ongoing state wide inspection and commissioning of projects tagged “Kinetic Abia”, frowned at the indiscriminate dumping of refuse by residents, thereby blocking drainages already disilted by the state government.

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has appealed to residents to be patient with his administration about the worsening state of the roads and the concomitant gridlock in the State.
The Chief Executive of the State made this disclosure on Tuesday, October 2, while speaking on the Platform, a program by the Covenant Christian Center themed “Redesigning the Nigerian Economy with New Ideas”. He explained that the worsening state of Lagos roads was occasioned by the rainy season which has been on since his ascension to the throne 4 months ago. There rains have virtually crippled both the construction and maintenance aspects of the roads business.
Sanwo-Olu promised that there would be extensive and massive rehabilitation of roads after the raining season, but added that all the roads cannot be fixed at the same time.

According to the governor, it had been raining since he was sworn-in, pointing out that bitumen reacts adversely with rain and as a result slowed down all on-going construction and maintenance work on the roads.

The Governor said besides rainy season, the poor state of the roads was worsened by the water level in the State, it’s small landmass and population explosion. All these, he reiterated, were responsible for the heavy traffic congestion experienced in the State. But all those notwithstanding, he revealed to Lagosians that his government’s remedy for the traffic problems experienced on a daily basis was a multi-modal transportation system.

He stressed that this would involve developing the rail, water transportation and bus transit system which the government was already working on. He said,

“On water transportation, we have just acquired 7 new passenger-boats capable of conveying 60-70 passengers at once”.
On the commercial motorcycle operators popularly known as Okada, he said the administration was trying to harmonise and regulate their operations to strike a balance between convenience and security, as an outright ban is almost impossible given the peculiarity of the State.
“This is designed to know who they are, their activities and how to manage them for security purposes and to ensure they don’t inadvertently add to the already existing gridlock; we don’t want to disenfranchise anybody”, said the Governor.
