										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="text-transform: initial">Students have donated the sum of N5 Million Naira to People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Guber Candidate Prof. Uche E. Ikonne in support of his gubernatorial project.</span></p>
<p>Ambassador Philips who disclosed this during a fund-raising ceremony for the PDP guber candidate in Umuahia recently, noted that the kind-hearted benevolence from students’ meagre allowance, attests that Prof. Ikonne is widely loved by the people, especially the youths.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the Abia state Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has maintained that Prof. Uche Ikonne and his deputy, Barr. Okey Igwe have the required experience to move Abia forward, adding that 16 years legacy of PDP in Abia would not be left in the hands of inexperienced politicians that would take Abia backward.</p>
<p>Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Abia state, Barr. Chris Ezem, he urged Abians to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and vote PDP massively come 2023 general elections.</p>

<p>In his speech, the Abia state PDP Guber Candidate, Prof. Uche Ikonne thanked Abians for standing with PDP in the past two decades in the state, maintaining that the country has suffered a great deal in the hands of All Progressive Party (APC) in the past seven years, hence the need to vote for PDP at all levels.</p>
<p>Represented by his Deputy, Barr. Okey Igwe, he urged everyone to take the message of Uche Ndi Abia to the grassroot, adding that &#8220;Prof. Ikonne is a progenitor of change&#8221;.</p>

<p>Speaking earlier, the Chairman on the occasion and the former Nigerian Ambassador to Argentina, Chief Empire Kanu, thanked the PDP leadership in the state for remaining formidable, adding that the integrity and wealth of experience of their guber candidate would make winning 2023 general elections easy.</p>
<p>In his remark, the PDP Chairman, Abia state, Rt. Hon. Alwell Asiforo Okere reiterated the party’s resolve to win all the elections that would be contested in 2023 general polls, adding that PDP is the only party at the grassroot with the capacity to returning Nigeria back to winning ways.</p>

<p>He noted that the fund-raising event was geared towards changing the narratives of one person solely sponsoring the party’s candidates to participatory sponsorship.</p>
<p>Contributing, the Chief Launcher, Elder Raymond Aliga insisted that Prof. Ikonne candidacy would take Abia to the next level of development.</p>
<p>In his words: “I am passionate about Abia state because am an entrepreneur from Abia state. I am also happy, seeing Made in Aba products competing favourably in Abuja, Lagos and the International markets”.</p>
<p>He hailed Gov. Ikpeazu for proving leadership for the state with numerous legacy projects completed across the state.</p>
<p>Also, the MD/CEO, Mainland Oil and the Chairman Finance committee of PDP campaign council, Chief Chris Odinaka Igwe expressed hope that Prof. Ikonne’s leadership when elected would transform the fortunes of Abia in terms of critical infrastructure, Human Capital Development among others.</p>
<p>He urged all Abians to go to their wards and units and spread Ikonne’s participatory governance message among other supports.</p>
<p>In their separate remarks, Chief Chris Nkwonta, Rt. Hon. Cosmos Ndukwe, Chief Maurice Abazie, Chief Okey Ahaiwe, Chief Mba Ukariwe, expressed hope that a combination of Prof. Ikonne and Barr. Igwe would move Abia to the next level.</p>

<p>In a related development, the Chairman, Abia state Traditional Rulers Council, His Eminence Eze Joseph Ndubuisi Nwabekee hailed Gov. Ikpeazu for the relative peace and developmental projects in the state, expressing hope that the next governor would do better.</p>
<p>In his vote of thanks, the Chairman, Organizing Committee and Contact Mobilization Sub-Committee, Chief Gabriel C. <p>For  some, they commended his hardwork and dedication to duty, which they said has earned him a reputable place in Abia politics.</p>
<div dir="auto">The People&#8217;s Democratic Party Guber candidate for the 2023 election, Prof Uche Ikonne,was not left out,as he praised the character of Ikwuagwu, who he noted was lifted by the grace of God.</div>

<div dir="auto">According to the guber candidate, the celebrant should continue in his trust in God,as well as, remain grateful to God that has protected him from year to year, urging him not to be distracted or lured into dabbling fetish acts, as that could inpede the flow of God&#8217;s grace in his life.</div>

<div dir="auto">Prof Ikonne while joining faith with others,prayed that the glory of God  would keep on nurturing him, adding that the unseen arm of God would keep protecting himfrom evil.</div>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Diocesan Bishop, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Diocese of Ukwa, Rt. Rev. Manasses Chijiokem Okere has extolled the Abia 2023 People&#8217;s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Prof. Uche Eleazar Ikonne, describing him as a fortright knight of the church.</p>
<p>Bishop Okere who stated this at the just concluded 38th Synod of Ukwa Diocese in Akwete, Ukwa-East Local Government Area (LGA), Abia state, added that Prof. Ikonne has made the church proud by distinguishing himself as the Rector, Abia state Polytechnics Aba and Abia State University Uturu among other various capacities.</p>

<p>In his sermon, the Bishop, Diocese of Nsukka, Rt. Rev. Aloysius Agbo, pointed out that wrong believe and values have crippled the society, urging everyone to develop and intimacy with God, shun bitterness and renew their hearts for acceptance before God.</p>
<p>Speaking on the theme entitled: &#8220;A new heart: The core of a transformed life of obedience and service to God&#8221;, the clergy maintained that God is more interested in having a relationship with us than what we offer.</p>

<p>In his remark, the Abia state Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of the Deputy Governor, Abia state, Sir Don Ubani, has reiterated government&#8217;s resolve to always partner with the church in advancing the affairs of Abians.</p>
<p>He thanked the church for their prayers, adding that it has hugely helped the state to enjoy peace and prosperity over the years.</p>

<p>Contributing, the Abia state Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Barr. Tony Nwamuo has also described Prof. Ikonne as a proven man of excellence, whose wealth of experience in various areas like Human Capital Development, Education among others would advance Abia state if elected Governor, Abia State.</p>
<p>Barr. Nwamuo who further called for continued support to Help Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu&#8217;s adminstration, describing him as the rebuilder of Abia state.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the 2023 Abia PDP Guber candidate, Prof. Uche E. Ikonne, has attributed his success as the Vice-Chancellor, Abia State University (ABSU) Uturu to his partnership with God, the church and the clergies.</p>
<p>He noted that cultism was reduced to the lowest level during his tenure in ABSU, owing to spiritual help from the church and clergies like Bishop Manesses Okere.</p>

<p>He promised to invest the state&#8217;s resources in Ukwa region if elected, maintaining that the area is endowed with human and natural resources.</p>
<p>Present at the event are; the 2023 PDP candidate for Ukwa Federal Constituency, Sir Chris Nkwonta, former Sole Adminiatrator, Abia State Oil Producing Areas Commission (ASOPADEC), Rt. Hon. Emeka Stanley, Executive Chairman, Ukwa-East LGA, Hon. Chuks Wabara, the Director General, Uche Ndi Abia Campaign Organization, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Elechi, the CEO, Tuski Energy, Chief Chimezie Otuka among others.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="text-transform: initial">The  Chairman, Abia State Traditional Prime Ministers Council, High Chief Uche Akwukwuegbu (BAWAS) has affirmed his total support for the People&#8217;s Democratic Party Gubernatorial Candidate in Abia State, Professor Uche Ikonne.</span></p>

<p>Chief Akwukwuegbu who made this pledge while receiving Professor Ikonne and his team at his Ibeku-Umuahia country home, described Professor Ikonne&#8217;s candidacy as the best for Abia State at this time, noting that he has always employed his creative ingenuity and brilliant developmental ideas to transform any position entrusted to him.</p>
<p>Chief Uche Akwukwuegbu while commending the  performances of His Excellency, Governor Ikpeazu in the area of human capital development, Small and Medium Enterprise, infrastructural development, and the overall development of the State, stated that the developmental-driven leadership legacy of Dr. Ikpeazu led administration must be sustained, as he will do everything within his powers to support the succession plan of His Excellency.</p>
<p>He also used the opportunity to call on all Abians to mobilise support for this divine project.</p>

<p>He also used the opportunity to extol Chief Uche Akwukwuegbu&#8217;s sterling qualities as well as his contributions to the state and country at large.</p>

<p>Also speaking, the MD/CEO Okey Technical Construction Ltd, Deacon Okezie Onyemuwa, noted with pride, the leadership history of Professor Ikonne in his professional and academic fields, with an assertion that Abia state under his watch, will witness massive development. <p><strong>The immediate past Vice Chancellor of the Abia State University, Prof Uche Eleazar Ikonne, has emerged as the PDP Governorship Candidate for the 2023 Abia Guber Election with a vow to defeat candidates from other political parties to emerge as the next Governor of the State</strong>.</p>
<p>Prof Ikonne who stated this at the Umuahia Township Stadium, shortly after being declared as the winner of the People&#8217;s Democratic Party Governorship Primary Election in Abia, said he has what it takes to defeat other parties come 2023.</p>

<p>The former VC who polled a total of 468 votes, defeating his closest rival,Mayor Lucky Igbokwe who got 45 votes,said he would place Abia on the pedestal of development by providing job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths,as well as increasing the infrastructural base of the state, promising to beat the expectations of Abians.</p>
<p>Speaking further, Ikonne informed the party that he understood the burden wheeled on his shoulders, assuring them of victory at the 2023 Guber polls.</p>

<p>Prof Ikonne, however, appreciated the Governor of the State,Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for yielding to the will of God and thanked other delegates for finding him fit to fly the flag of the party.</p>
<p>Earlier, the chairman of the PDP in Abia State, Rt Hon Alwell Asiforo Okere,had assured all aspirants of a level playing ground, saying that fairness and equity would be allowed to play out.</p>

<p>The PDP chairman also informed the Electoral Committee that the party in Abia was intact and urged delegates to vote freely with confidence that their votes would count.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the Electoral Committee Chairman and former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose,had promised to work strictly with the guidelines of the party and urged the aspirants not to entertain any fear.</p>

<p>Recall that Prof Uche Ikonne had earlier gone into the contest for the PDP ticket with 12 other aspirants but 10 withdrew from the contest on reasons bothering on an alleged illegalities on the selection of the 3 man Ad-hoc delegates list.</p>
<p>Among the 13 PDP aspirants who purchased the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for Governorship,10 candidates including, the Senator representing Abia South Senatorial District, Sen Enyinnaya Abaribe, the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Rt Hon Ude Oko Chukwu, Prof Greg Ibe ,Sen Emma Nwaka, Engr Chima Nwafor,Chief Ncheta Omerekpe,Dr Chima Anyaso, Dr Sampson Orji, among others, withdrew from the contest citing various reasons, while Mayor Lucky Igbokwe,Prof Eleazer Ikonne and Mrs Ezinwanyi Jonah, opted to slug it out at the primaries.</p>

<p>After a keenly contest,Mayor Lucky Igbokwe polled a total of 45 votes, Mrs Ezinwanyi Jonah got 5 votes and Prof Ikonne 468 votes, leaving him as the winner of the PDP Governorship Primary Election.</p>

<p>Surprisingly, votes were allocated to some of the aspirants who had earlier announced their discontinuation from the race with Sen Enyinnaya Abaribe polling 5 votes,Enyinnaya Nwafor and Sen Emma Nwaka polling a total of 4 votes each.</p>
<p>Others are Rt Hon Ude Oko Chukwu who polled 6 votes, Prof Greg Ibe 2 votes, Chief Ncheta Omerekpe 3 votes, while Sampson Orji polled 4 votes and a total of 8 votes were recorded as void</p>
<p>With the emergence of Prof Eleazar Ikonne as the PDP flagbearer,he would be facing other candidates who emerged from other political parties in the 2023 Gubernatorial election.</p>
