In a statement signed by Hon. Frank Archibong, Dean, College of Commissioners and Special Advisers and made available to newsmen in Uyo in commemoration of late Patience Eno’s one year Memorial, the aides expressed desire to celebrate the late first lady’s enduring legacy- the Golden Initiative for All (GIFA) stressing that, the project was established with a clear and compassionate mandate of empowering the vulnerable, uplifting women and youth, and providing critical support in health and education.

He explained that late Patience Eno’s vision was not just a concept but an actionable plan for community transformation as seen in the significant gains being recorded through scholarships, skills acquisition programs, and healthcare initiatives.

Archibong said the authentic tribute to the late first lady’s memory is the sustenance of her legacy project- GIFA through her daughter who is coordinating the office and living out her mother’s dreams.

The dean also commended the governor for his resilience and commitment to service irrespective of what he termed as ‘immense personal tragedy’

The statement in parts, ”We have watched you demonstrate remarkable fortitude, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to the service of our State. Leading with a heavy heart is a burden few can bear, yet you have continued to steer the ship of State with clarity, purpose, and dedication.

”Your strength, anchored in your deep faith, has been an inspiration to us all. We pray that God continues to be your comfort and strength. ”As we reflect on the life of a virtuous woman, may the beautiful memories you shared bring you solace, and may the knowledge that her legacy continues to blossom bring you peace.”

The Governor’s wife made this known on Tuesday in an event commemorating the 2023 World Breastfeeding Week tagged “Enabling Breastfeeding: Making A Difference for Working Parents,” which was held at Government House Banquet Hall, Uyo.

The governor’s wife who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr Ini Adiakpan noted that all women are natural caregivers saying that the advocacy for exclusive breastfeeding should be taken to various localities, churches and workplaces.

While stating that proper breastfeeding breeds a healthy population, the First Lady urged nursing mothers who are breastfeeding to wear comfortable clothes that allow them to breastfeed their infants at any time.

She said, “There is a need for breastfeeding centres to be set up in every work places. This will encourage nursing mothers who are working to engage in 6-months exclusive breastfeeding as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).”

The Governor’s Wife further solicited the collaborative support of wives of Local Government Chairmen in spreading the message at the grassroots for effective sensitization.

The Resource persons at the event mentioned numerous benefits of exclusive breastfeeding for both the baby and the mother including postpartum weight loss for the mother, lower risk of allergies, asthma, obesity, and chronic diseases for babies that may want to occur later in life. They concluded that breast milk is readily available, requires no preparation, and is more cost-effective compared to formula feeding.
