Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has announced that a section of the ongoing construction of the 6 Lane Okpara Square-Ossah-Tower road would be completed this Yuletide.

Governor Otti who made the announcement during an inspection of the ongoing construction, expressed happiness with the pace of work, and assured commuters of a usable section for Christmas.

The Governor noted that with the setting in of the dry season,work would continue 24 hours on a daily basis to ensure completion of the road within the stipulated time frame.

He explained that he was motivated to begin the expansion of the road to Six lanes from the initial four lanes due to the congestions experienced by commuters during festive seasons and noted that the expansion would alleviate traffic.

Governor Otti while highlighting the government’s commitment to meeting the people’s needs, outlined plans for accommodating businesses relocating to Umuahia and Aba.

“If you are familiar with this road, every festive season people get stuck, expanding the road to six lanes would help traffic”.

“We know what our people wanted. The essence of government is to deliver on what the people want and people are happy because we are actually speaking to their needs and that’s what government is about.

“On daily bases we have more and more people who want to move out of Umuahia and Aba to bring their businesses back so we are forward thinking and forward looking. We are already planning for them as they relocate”.

The Governor assured Abia people that many good things and development plans are in the offing for them saying; “These are still early days, as time goes on we are going to touch on different aspects of the needs of our people.

“That’s why we are here, (in government) to ensure that the welfare and security of our people are prioritized”.

Governor Otti expressed regret for inconveniences caused commuters by the restriction of traffic as a result of the road expansion, and assured affected a swift return to normal traffic flow.

He said that compensation has been provided to those whose houses were affected and added that ongoing efforts are on to address additional cases before any further demolitions.

“A lot of people’s house were affected and we have already paid compensations to them. I understand there are a few more houses that got enumerated after the first compensations have been paid.

“We are looking at that to ensure that we also pay compensations before we bring down those houses”.

He thanked the Commissioner for Works, his team, as well as the contractors handling the project for their efforts and urged residents to exercise patience as the road nears completion.

Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has again reassured that the New Government House Complex located at Ogurube Layout, Umuahia will be completed before the expiration of his tenure in 2023.

Ikpeazu made this known when he paid an inspection visit to  the New Government House Project Site to ascertain the progress of work in company  of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji.

Recall that the New Government House Project was initiated by the administration of immediate past Governor of Abia, Chief Theodore Ahamefula Orji.

While reiterating his resolve  towards ensuring that the Complex is completed in record time,the Governor said, “I will move into this place and use it before I leave office as Governor in 2023”.

He noted that the the presence of the Speaker in the inspection exercise was part of his administration’s efforts to uphold the principle of transparency in governance.

The Governor expressed satisfaction that the contractor is now back on site, adding that the  visit was to ensure that the work is going according to specifications.

“I have come to see the quality of work and to ensure they are working in line with specifications.

“Presently, the contractor is doing electrical, plumbing and tilling works as plastering had been completed”, Ikpeazu stated.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu gave the cheering news during an inspection visit to the Ngwa Road market.

According to him,the Ngwa Road market will be expanded,adding that some structures on the road will be knocked down.

He said that drainage will be constructed all through Ngwa Road to the water side area.

The governor who also visited the Ekeoha Shopping complex to see things for himself, regretted that the entire Ngwa Road has been taken over by market and disclosed that plans are underway to construct multi layer car parks in major markets in Aba to make the roads passable.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who gave the cheering news when he paid an unscheduled inspection visit to the State Secretariat, Ogurube Layout Umuahia, commended members of staff of the various Ministries for their punctuality.

According to Governor Ikpeazu, “The unscheduled visit will continue in Ministries as government is thinking towards incentifying members of staff of various Ministries. Those who are diligent and hardworking would get some amount of money at the end of the month which will serve as running cost”

He added that the criteria that will be used in selecting beneficiaries for the reward will be hardwork, commitment and dedication.

Governor Ikpeazu who noted that the old secretariat is no longer structurally healthy for civil servants directed the head of service,Sir Onyii Wamah to make alternative accommodation for the workers as government will soon commence on building a befitting structure to ensure they do their work in a conducive environment.

In his words: ”This building is not structurally healthy at all. I am contemplating many things including pulling it down .

”Our problem is what kind of makeshift arrangement can we do to accommodate staff while we try to do something. I like people working in a conducive environment”.

The Governor later paid an unscheduled visit at the Amachara Specialist Hospital where he promised to offset medical bills for nursing mothers at the maternity ward.
