Chairman of Chairmen (PDP) in the Rainbow Coalition, Barrister Emeka Onyenso, described the gathering as historic, saying it was one of the rare occasions where members of the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party jointly supported a grassroots empowerment programme in Abia State.

Earlier, Chairman of the Organising Committee, Chief Chidiebere Ihenyirimmadu, commended Erondu Jnr for his sustained commitment to grassroots empowerment, recalling that he had organised a similar initiative barely three months earlier.

Other speakers at the event included APC chieftain Dr. Nyerere Chinenye Anyim, former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Christopher O. Enweremadu and former member of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Uzo Azubuike, all of whom praised the lawmaker for promoting unity and improving the welfare of his constituents.

Former Abia State Governor and Nigerian Ambassador-designate to Spain, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, was represented at the event by his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Nkechi Carol Ikpeazu.

The programme highlighted the growing role of grassroots empowerment initiatives in improving the livelihoods of citizens while fostering political collaboration across party lines in Abia State.

The Presidency on Thursday cautioned opposition political parties against what it described as persistent lamentation and unwarranted outrage over the amended Electoral Act and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, accused opposition parties — particularly the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) — of making what he termed reckless and spurious allegations to attract public attention and mislead Nigerians.

Onanuga alleged that some prominent opposition figures recently gathered in the Federal Capital Territory and made unfounded claims against the President and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, the opposition has “turned irresponsible political statements into an art form,” accusing them of collaborating with certain civil society groups to spread disinformation against the National Assembly and the Federal Government.

Addressing the controversy surrounding the amended Electoral Act 2022, the Presidency said the National Assembly introduced provisions for real-time electronic transmission of election results while retaining Form EC8A as a backup in cases of technical or network failure.

It dismissed claims that the continued use of Form EC8A creates loopholes for manipulation, describing such allegations as illogical.

“The law does not prohibit real-time transmission. It only provides that where transmission fails due to network glitches, the result recorded on Form EC8A shall be deemed valid,” the statement said.

The Presidency also clarified the function of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Results Viewing Portal (IReV), explaining that it is not a collation centre but a public platform for uploading polling unit results. It maintained that Form EC8 remains the primary legal document for validating election outcomes.

Reacting to objections over direct primaries, the Presidency expressed surprise that political parties would oppose broader participation of their members in candidate selection processes, rather than rely solely on delegate systems.

It argued that direct primaries and consensus options strengthen internal party democracy and return ownership of political parties to their members, noting that similar processes exist in other presidential democracies.

The statement further rejected claims that the National Assembly ignored public input in amending the law, asserting that lawmakers conducted extensive consultations with stakeholders, experts and citizens over a two-year period before finalising the amendments.

Dismissing allegations that President Tinubu intends to steer Nigeria toward a one-party state, the Presidency described the claim as baseless, emphasising that Nigeria remains a multiparty democracy with over a dozen registered political parties.

The Presidency maintained that the amended Electoral Act improves on the previous version by closing identified gaps and enhancing electoral integrity. It urged opposition parties to focus on strengthening their internal structures instead of engaging in what it termed “constant lamentation and unwarranted outrage.”

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday decorated Olatunji Disu as the Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), marking the formal commencement of his leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.

The decoration ceremony took place at the State House, Abuja, shortly after Disu arrived for the event, a day after his appointment as the nation’s top police officer.

Disu’s elevation followed the resignation of the former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, whose exit from office was confirmed by the Presidency last ,Tuesday. In a statement, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said President Tinubu accepted Egbetokun’s resignation after he cited pressing family reasons in a formal letter.

Assumption of Office, Reform Pledge
Following his decoration, Disu formally assumed office as Acting IGP during a handover ceremony, where he unveiled an ambitious reform agenda aimed at restoring public confidence in the police.

He declared that his leadership would be anchored on three pillars: professionalism and modernisation; accountability and integrity; and community partnership and public trust.

Acknowledging the challenges confronting the force, Disu spoke candidly about what he described as “uncomfortable truths,” including a trust deficit between the police and communities, outdated operational systems, resource gaps, and incidents of misconduct.

“These are truths we must face with resolve to reposition the Nigeria Police as a trusted, people-oriented institution,” he said.

Intelligence-Led Policing, Zero Tolerance for Impunity
On operational reforms, the Acting IGP said the police would prioritise intelligence-led policing, forensic investigations, and the deployment of digital tools to enhance effectiveness.

“Modern policing—not intimidation or abuse of authority—will define our operations,” he stressed.

On accountability, Disu warned that impunity would no longer be tolerated within the ranks.

“The badge is a symbol of public trust. Anyone who treats it otherwise will face the full consequences of our disciplinary processes,” he said, adding that oversight mechanisms would be strengthened and procedures made more transparent.

He further described community policing as a philosophy rather than a programme, pledging deeper engagement with citizens through town halls, markets, schools, and neighbourhood interactions.

Addressing police officers nationwide, Disu promised to improve welfare and working conditions, while demanding integrity, compassion, and courage in the discharge of duties.

To Nigerians, he appealed for cooperation with law enforcement, urging citizens to report crimes, engage with local officers, and hold the police accountable.

“We are not your adversaries. We are your neighbours in uniform, and your safety is the only measure of our success,” he said.

Career Profile
Until his appointment, Disu served as Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos. He was promoted to the rank of AIG last year.

He previously served as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and later as Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory. He is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and a former head of the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria Police Force, a position once held by Abba Kyari.

Born on April 13, 1966, on Lagos Island, Disu enlisted in the police on May 18, 1992. His career spans several commands, including postings as Divisional Police Officer in Ago Iwoye (Ogun State), Ikare and Owo (Ondo State), and Elimbu and Elelenwo (Rivers State).

Appreciation and Commitment
Disu expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him, describing the appointment as “a heavy responsibility rather than a moment for celebration.” He also acknowledged the contributions of past Inspectors-General, pledging to build on their legacies.

“The road ahead is not smooth. There will be resistance and hard choices, but my commitment to transforming this Service into one every citizen can trust will not waver,” he said.

With his assumption of office, the Acting IGP signalled what he described as a decisive effort to reposition the police as a modern, accountable, and community-focused institution.

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu as the Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), following the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun.

The appointment was announced on Tuesday evening by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, who said the decision was taken in view of the prevailing security challenges facing the country and in line with extant laws.

According to the statement, President Tinubu will, in compliance with the Police Act 2020, convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to formally consider Disu’s appointment as substantive IGP, after which his name will be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.
As the new acting police chief assumes leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, attention has turned to his background, credentials, and career trajectory. Below are five key facts about Acting IGP Tunji Disu:

World-Class Athlete
Beyond his policing career, Disu is an accomplished judoka with international exposure.

In August 2022, he won a silver medal at the U.S. Open Judo Championship, competing in the minus 100kg category of the veterans’ division in Brookline, Massachusetts, United States.

Champion of Police Rebranding
During his tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos between 2015 and 2021, Disu spearheaded a rebranding initiative that earned the unit the nickname “The Good Guys.” The initiative was widely seen as a deliberate effort to build public trust and promote a more humane approach to policing in the state.

Strong Academic Profile
Disu is regarded as one of the most academically decorated senior officers in the force. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Education from the Lagos State University, a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University, and an additional Master’s degree in Criminology, Security and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University.

Broad Command Experience
The Lagos-born officer has served in several strategic roles across the country.

He was Commissioner of Police in Rivers State from November 2023, where he was credited with dismantling criminal networks and reducing crime rates. On September 19, 2025, he was redeployed as Commissioner of Police in the Abuja.

Disu also previously headed the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), taking over leadership in August 2021 under former IGP Usman Alkali Baba.
Return to Abuja
Until his latest appointment, Disu was serving as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) at Alagbon, Lagos. His elevation as Acting IGP marks a return to Abuja, where he served as police commissioner only months ago.

A New Task at Louis Edet House
With nearly three decades of service since joining the police in 1992, Disu now assumes office at the Louis Edet House amid high public expectations. Many Nigerians believe his “policing with a human face” philosophy will be crucial in confronting the nation’s complex security challenges and restoring public confidence in law enforcement.

In a unique show of support and celebration, a novelty football match is set to take place in Rivers State this Saturday, August 9, 2025, as part of activities honouring the leadership strides of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The event, themed “Kicking for Unity and Good Governance”, is being organised by the Enforcers of Good Governance, a civic group dedicated to promoting accountable leadership and national development. The match will feature a face-off between top celebrities from Rivers State and the Enforcers’ select team at the Ogbogu Town field in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA).

According to Dr. Ogu Kingsley, the Founder and National Leader of the group, the football match is a symbolic gesture aimed at recognising President Tinubu’s contributions to democratic governance, national cohesion, and institutional reforms across Nigeria.

“This is more than just a football match; it is a platform for celebrating leadership excellence and fostering peace through sports,” Dr. Kingsley stated. “President Tinubu has demonstrated a firm commitment to the unity of Nigeria and to inclusive governance. We believe this is a worthy way to honour him while bringing communities together.”

The event is expected to draw a large crowd, including community leaders, government officials, sports lovers, and entertainers from across the state. Organisers say it will blend sportsmanship with civic consciousness, reinforcing the role of non-partisan platforms in supporting developmental ideals.

Beyond the football pitch, the celebration will also feature musical performances, goodwill messages, and community outreach to underscore the importance of unity, youth engagement, and good governance in national transformation.

Local authorities and security agencies are already collaborating with the organisers to ensure a peaceful and well-coordinated event.

As anticipation builds, residents of ONELGA and beyond are gearing up for what promises to be a colourful and unifying event that celebrates leadership, community, and the power of sport in nation-building.

The post Rivers Group to Celebrate President Tinubu with Football Extravaganza first appeared on National Ambassador News.

Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, may be reinstated on or before Nigeria’s Democracy Day on June 12, following mounting pressure on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by prominent political figures, including former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Sources close to the Presidency reveal that Jonathan has personally appealed to Tinubu, including engaging in a phone conversation, urging the president to reinstate Fubara in the spirit of Democracy Day—a national holiday commemorating the country’s return to democratic governance.

Recall that Governor Fubara was suspended on March 18, 2025, after President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State. This decision followed a prolonged and escalating political feud between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Wike’s loyalists in the Rivers State House of Assembly had launched an impeachment move against Fubara, prompting the Presidency to intervene. Tinubu’s administration suspended the governor, his deputy, and several lawmakers in an effort to prevent further destabilization. Retired military officer Ibas was appointed to oversee the state’s administration during the suspension.

Initial expectations that Fubara would be reinstated on May 29—marking Tinubu’s second year in office—did not materialize. However, attention has now shifted to June 12, when the president is expected to address the nation during Democracy Day celebrations.

Sources indicate that a key announcement could be made during that broadcast, signaling Fubara’s return to office. The move would be seen as a significant gesture by the Tinubu administration towards restoring democratic norms and unity in one of Nigeria’s most politically sensitive states.

Also recall that in April 2025, Gov Fubara met privately with President Tinubu in London, and again in Lagos, where discussions reportedly centered on resolving the impasse in Rivers State. Following those meetings, Fubara urged his supporters to exercise restraint and refrain from attacking either Tinubu or Wike, underscoring his commitment to peace and reconciliation.

Political analysts suggest that Fubara’s potential reinstatement may be followed by a defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This would mirror recent political realignments in the South-South, with governors from Delta and Akwa Ibom States already shifting allegiance.

Such a move could further weaken the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the region, where the Fubara-Wike rivalry has already created deep internal divisions.

By September 18, 2025, six months would have passed since Ibas assumed interim leadership in Rivers State. A reinstatement before then—especially on a symbolic date like Democracy Day—would send a strong signal about the Tinubu administration’s commitment to democratic governance and constitutional order.

As Democracy Day approaches, political observers across the country are closely watching President Tinubu’s upcoming national address, which may not only redefine the future of Rivers State politics but also serve as a test of his leadership and democratic principles.

The post June 12: Tinubu To Reinstate Gov Fubara As Jonathan, Others Sustain Pressure first appeared on National Ambassador News.

The lawmaker representing Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency at Federal House of Representatives Abuja, Hon. Chris Nkwonta has disclosed that the South-East Development Commission (SEDC) will tackle insecurity, Infrastructural deficit, youth restiveness among others in the southeastern Nigeria.

The Chairman, House Committee on South-East Development Commission (SEDC), Federal House of Representatives who disclosed this to newsmen, following the commission‘s budget presentation and defence before the House Committee on South East Development Commission at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja yesterday.

The Abia-born Federal Legislator, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the SEDC bill into law, adding that the neglected South-East Nigeria would witness government presence in terms of critical infrastructural development.

In his words: “This budget essentially is going to target those areas where there were deficits in infrastructure, erosion, human capital development, among others.

He decried that since after the civil war, the South-East has been a shadow of itself and the promises made to our people at the end of the Civil War, remained elusive for about 54 years, until President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the SEDC bills into law.

“The Commission is expected to build roads, bridges, railways, and manpower development. Although the money will not be enough, this is a takeoff grant. This is the beginning because the SEDC is a growing concern, and the President has given them this take-off grant of N250 Billion.

“The commission also expects money to come in from federal allocation. I am told that money will also likely come from the five Southeastern states, ecological funds coming into the country, and oil companies operating in the South East.

“Even though this is not enough, we need to start from somewhere. But we are grateful to the President that after six military heads of state and five democratically elected Presidents, attention has been given to the South-East,“ Nkwonta further added.

Earlier, the House of Representatives had approved the N250 billion budget of the SEDC for the financial year, after diligent scrutiny by the committee members at the National Assembly complex in Abuja.

The post SEDC Will Tackle Infrastructural Gaps, Security Concerns, Others In South-East – Nkwonta first appeared on National Ambassador News.

It is no longer news that at last, one of the long expected desires of the people of South East has been met. The recent signing into law of the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill by HE, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a huge plus, not only to Ndigbo, but to all manner of people who detest injustice and marginalization just the way the people of Southeast have been subjected ever since the end of civil war which left the region battered and shattered, 54 years ago.

The people of the Southeast of Nigeria have been disadvantaged decades after the Civil War. The 3Rs vision of Reconciliation, Rehabilitation, and Re-construction by the General Gowon regime aimed at addressing the plights of the region was without success. Unarguably, it will not be out of place to say that the lack of implementation of the 3Rs program by the past regimes (especially the military), may have contributed to poor infrastructural development which might have directly or indirectly affected the high level of insecurity in the region. This apparently has resulted in the overbearing and intimidating presence of security road blocks in the Southeast.

Judging by the ever increasing number of military check points and the resultant effects of untold hardship facing the people of the region, it has continued to remind them that although the civil war ended 54 years ago, the siege of exploitation, intimidation and neglect on the people have continued ad infinitum.

It is obvious that the relative improvement in southeast since the end of the civil war came out of individual efforts of the people that started with only twenty pounds. That federal government’s policy to provide the said twenty pounds, despite the proclaimed “no victor and no vanquish” by the then military regime was even seen by many as a more subtle plot to further impoverished the region that lost over 3 million people. Regardless, the ingenuity and innate hard-working characteristics of the people surprisingly transformed the region without the effective implementation of the 3Rs.
Thus, the past 54 years had been painful with the constant struggle of people to attract the attention of the federal government.

But all thanks to our amiable Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, who has finally given us something to cheer in our years of jeer. The birth of the SEDC will no doubt help in addressing the huge infrastructural deficit in the region and bring it back to its peaceful nature. Indeed, with the signing into law of this all important Commission, it will definitely address development deficiencies in the area, provide quality education, advance our school infrastructure and its standard by offering teachers continuing education as well as providing scholarships to indigent students, skills acquisition, employment opportunities to the people, including the restive youths, provide quality healthcare, tackle ecological challenges, improve socio-economic activities and curtail the ever increasing military presence in the region. If all these mentioned can be tackled, it will equally add fillip to the aims and objectives of Peace in South East Project (PISE-P) vision, which is also a brainchild of the Deputy Speaker.

Just like its sister organizations, the South East Development Commission should live up to its mandate to which it was established and must not fail the people who are desirous of a better region after many years of siege and neglect.

Thus, to avoid failure, the Tinubu administration must ensure collaboration with stakeholders of the region who were instrumental to the birth of SEDC. Therefore, the pioneers who will lead the Commission should be patriotic Nigerians who would not compromise the 54-year-old hard fought vision.

It will be recalled that the bill was stalemated in the 8th and 9th assemblies. It subsequently created an impression of a culdesac for the development of the region. But in the 10th assembly, Kalu dusted the bill, expanded it appropriately, lobbied and pushed for its passage.

Anyone with keen understanding of the legislative proceedings in any parliament would know that passing a bill in an accelerated manner has always been a function of intense lobbying, love and confidence reposed in the sponsor of a motion. It is also a product of the degree of concerns displayed by the lawmakers. And this is the case in the 10th House as the members clearly showed they understood the plights of the region. No bill ever passes by coercion or undue influence or on self will. The members saw in Kalu a man of deep knowledge, one with utmost altruism to better the lot of region and then, unanimously passed the bill into law.

This was also the case in the Senate when the bill was sent there after its passage in the House. The Senators gave it an accelerated hearing and subsequently, passed it into law.

This therefore raises an appeal to the authorities to consider giving an opportunity to the Deputy Speaker who championed the bill to assemble some of the drivers of the commission to help realize the desired vision and mandate in line with the objectives of the bill.

To say that the presidential assent didn’t come as a surprise to many people would mean hiding the truth from the public.

President Tinubu, by that singular action, etched his name in gold and for many years to come, the south east will remain grateful to the president. Oh! yea, it is not in totems of typical Igbo man or woman to be ungrateful to anyone who does his or her any good. President Tinubu has done good to Ndi Igbo and history will be fair to him.

There is a saying that when you appreciate your benefactor, he does more for you. Our next plea is that the President will release our brother, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Ndigbo are eternally grateful to him for this great feat, and with this, the vision of reconciliation, rehabilitation, and reconstruction and may I add, reintegration is gradually being realized after many years of neglect and injustice to the region.

President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), pending her confirmation by the Senate.

The swearing-in of the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria and the second female justice to hold the office took place at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja.

In his remarks, President Tinubu urged the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria to defend the independence of the judiciary and promote the cause of justice.

The President emphasized the importance of strengthening mechanisms that will uphold and enhance integrity, discipline, and transparency in the judiciary.

”Undoubtedly, the position of the Chief Justice of Nigeria comes with enormous responsibilities as the head of all judicial institutions in the country. It is a position of considerable influence that demands temperance and sobriety.

”The occupant of the office must exude the highest level of integrity in the discharge of their duties. This is more so because of the finality of the Supreme Court’s judgments.

”I, therefore, urge your Lordship to be faithful and loyal to the Constitution when discharging your duty as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria.

”I also encourage you to defend the judiciary’s independence and always promote the cause of justice. It is vital that you strengthen all mechanisms for integrity, discipline, and transparency in the judicial sector, and pursue other reforms or initiatives to sustain and build public confidence in the judiciary,” the President stated.

President Tinubu also lauded the contributions of Justice Kekere-Ekun to the judiciary, noting that she is coming to the position with an admirable family and professional pedigree.

”Over the years, she has established a respectable and incorruptible reputation within the bar and the bench, which asserts the cause of justice.

”Her meritorious rise from a magistrate to justice of the Supreme Court is a testament to her exceptional talent, hard work, unblemished record, strong work ethic, and dedication to her calling as a priest in the temple of justice.

”Her sterling contribution to the growth of the Nigerian judiciary has been remarkable. We are inspired by her unwavering commitment to a higher ideal of upholding the principles of fairness and a strong commitment to humanity.

”Justice Kekere-Ekun is a brilliant lawyer who was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1981. She’s now a trailblazer becoming the second woman to hold this esteemed position after Honourable Justice Aloma Mariam Mukhtar, GCON,” the President said.

President Tinubu noted that the appointment of the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria is an inspiration and a beacon of hope to young women who aspire to break glass ceilings across sectors and seek to make meaningful impact on society.

Reflecting on the roles and evolution of the Nigerian Supreme Court since it was empowered by the 1963 Constitution to take over from the then Judicial Committee of the Privy Council as the highest court, the President noted that the court has played a critical role in resolving complex legal conflicts, even under the military.

He acknowledged the role of the Supreme Court in shaping public policies that impact all segments of society, citing the recent interpretation of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) regarding the financial autonomy of local councils in Nigeria.

Highlighting the expedited passage of the Judicial Autonomy Act of 2024, which increased the remuneration of judicial officers by 300 percent, President Tinubu assured the judiciary of continued support from his administration in the expeditious improvement of its welfare and capacity.

He cited the appointment of 11 new justices of the Supreme Court in December 2023, which is enabling the court to work efficiently as it attained its full complement of 21 justices for the first time in decades.

”Let me also reassure you that the judiciary under this administration will continue to receive prompt and adequate attention, recognizing its status as a driver of social order, rule of law, peace, security and economic development,” the President said.

President Tinubu also expressed gratitude to the immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, commending him for his 32 years of service to the judiciary and the nation.

Speaking to the media after the swearing-in, the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria pledged to elevate the judiciary to new heights, improve its reputation, and sustain public confidence in the judicial system.

”We will make sure that people have more confidence in the judiciary, and I believe that it is not a one-man job. We all have to be on board because we all see the areas that are in need of improvement.

”I believe that there will be maximum cooperation because we all want to see a better judiciary.

”A better judiciary is for the benefit of the entire nation. Whatever the shortcomings that we see today are, we are all members of the society so, if we want to see a better society, if we want to see improvement, let the improvement start with each and every one of us and our approach to justice.

”Let us all have faith in the system and then also be particular about the process of appointment, I know it is a source of a lot of concern; the issue of discipline on the bench and at the bar as well.

”All of these things are aspects that we will look into and I believe that by the grace of God, at the end of my tenure, we should be able to have a judiciary that we will all be proud of,” the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria said.

The event was witnessed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio; the immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola; former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed; justices of the Supreme Court, senior judicial officers, and some members of the Federal Executive Council.

The family of the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, led by her spouse, Mr. Akin Kekere-Ekun was also present at the State House Council Chamber.

As part of measures to ensure the welfare of the judiciary, the federal budgetary allocation to the institution was increased by 100 percent during President Tinubu’s first year in office.

The post Tinubu Swears In Justice Kekere-Ekun As Acting CJN first appeared on National Ambassador News.

President Bola Tinubu said that the country will outweigh against the oppositions undermining its peace and security with innumerable of security challenges.

President Tinubu, who was represented by the Senate president, Godswill Akpabio, gave the assurance while inaugurating the Headquarters of the Defence Intelligence Agency( AIA), last Thursday in Abuja.

The president said his confidence was fixed on the unwavering commitment of members of the Armed forces of Nigeria and the intelligence agencies, including the DSS, NIA and of course the DIA.

“You have all led me in no doubt that you have no other higher obligation than to serve and secure this nation of ours,” he said.

The president said he had made the task of securing every inch of the country a priority. He emphasised that the DIA was a key agency in the security architecture of the country that primarily provided intelligence to the armed forces and the Ministry of Defence.

According to him, our country is bedeviled by a myriad of security challenges across the six geopolitical zones of the entire nation.

“Since we became an independent nation about 64 years ago, except for the period of the civil war spanning 1967 all the way to 1970, at no time have we been faced by multiple threats than in recent times.

“We not only face physical threats but also economic and digital threats.

“In our bid to combat physical threats, we deploy the armed forces in almost all parts of the country to assist the civil authorities.

“Some of the other threats, you will have to contend with behind your computers using, if necessary, artificial intelligence, enabling our military to know the position of the enemies or the games they are up to.”

Tinubu said it was not a coincidence that the government had made deliberate efforts to ensure the general upliftment of the DIA which was created in 1986. Tinubu, however, promised to sustain the provisional welfare, training and other administrative and logistics requirements of the agency and the entire armed forces to enhance their productivity while carrying out their mandates.

According to him, a conducive and well-equipped intelligence outfit will positively impact the overall intelligence gathering efforts, processing and timely dissemination to the various arms of the military.

He commended the leadership of the agency, past and present for concealing and completing the edifice.

“It is my sincere belief that out of this magnificent office structure shall emerge innovations and creativity in the field of intelligence gathering that will keep Nigeria ahead of its foes and make our country and people safer.

“I want to commend the entire staff of the DIA for their dedication to duty.

“I urge you to be unrelenting, proactive in creating the necessary conditions that will guarantee the realisation of the renewed hope agenda for a better country that we all desire.

“The entire nation is behind you and appreciates your sacrifices,”

The Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), Maj.-Gen. Emmanuel Undiandeye, said the agency had since its establishment, diligently carried out its assigned responsibilities of intelligence gathering and provisioning of timely and appropriate actions for the military and strategic national decision-making.

Undiandeye identifies the place of intelligence as a critical tool of statecraft that provides the necessary foreknowledge to protect the nation from surprise attacks, either through hostile foreign military or internal challenges. He said that certain factors and conditions such as a conducive working environment of the operators of the system, were required to allow effective functioning of the agency.

However, he said that the completion and inauguration of the agency’s Headquarters marked a significant milestone in the journey towards enhancing its performance in intelligence provisioning for better national defence and security.

“This building stands as a testament to the fulfilment of the cardinal requirements of the staff of this agency for optimal performance of their duties.

“The agency is taking a bold and ambitious step by initiating what we call the Defense Intelligence Agency Technology Center in preparation for the current and future challenges and warfare.

“This is in order to give our nation a chance of survival in the past approaching the complex world of technology.

“Therefore, we have started incorporating artificial intelligence and data analytics into our processes in a flexible and scalable manner until we graduate into full implementation of all of the processes.

“This is against the backdrop that in the near future and any emphasis that lags behind in artificial intelligence may be incapable of defending itself or the nation indeed acts equally in the quest to improve our output,”

The Organized labour has rejected the Federal Government N48,000 minimum wage proposal, describing it as an insult to sensibilities of Nigerian workers.

However, this resulted the Unions walking out of the negotiations table on minimum wage with the government and Organised Private Sector.

In a statement jointly issued and signed by NLC President, Joe Ajaero and TUC Deputy President, Tommy Etim Okon, last Wednesday. 15th May 2024, however expressed disappointment, saying the federal government has shown its unseriousness with the amount it proposed.

They said despite their sincere efforts to come to a fair agreement, the actions of the Government and the Organised Private Sector (OPS) were deemed inadequate, ultimately causing the breakdown in negotiations.

The labour leaders called on the government to reconsider its position and return to the negotiation table with a reasonable figure that can give workers a living wage as promised by President Bola Tinubu.

“In contrast the Organised Private Sector (OPS) proposed an initial offer of N54,000 (fifty-four thousand Naira) though it is worth noting that even the least paid workers in the private sector receives N78,000 (seventy-eight thousand Naira per month) as clearly stated by the OPS, highlighting the stark disparity between the proposed minimum wage and prevailing standards further demonstrating the unwillingness of Employers and Government to faithfully negotiate a fair National Minimum Wage for Workers in Nigeria.

“Furthermore, the Government’s failure to provide any substantiated data to support their offer exacerbates the situation.

“This lack of transparency and good faith undermines the credibility of the negotiation process and erodes trust between the parties involved.

“As representatives of Nigerian workers, we cannot in good conscience accept a wage proposal that would result in a reduction in income for federal-level workers who are already receiving N30,000 (thirty thousand Naira) as mandated by law, augmented by Buhari’s 40% Peculiar allowance (N12,000) and the N35,000 (thirty-five thousand Naira) wage award, totaling N77,000 (seventy-seven thousand Naira) only. Such a regressive step would undermine the economic well-being of workers and their families and is unacceptable in a National Minimum Wage Fixing process.

“In light of these developments, and in order to prevent the negotiation of a wage deduction, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have taken the decision to walk out of the negotiation process. We remain committed to advocating for the rights and interests of Nigerian workers and will continue to engage in reasonable dialogue with the Government if they show serious commitment to find a fair and sustainable resolution to this impasse.

“We call upon the Government to reconsider its position and come to the negotiation table with clear hands that reflects the true value of the contributions made by Nigerian workers to the nation’s development and the objective socioeconomic realities that confront not just Nigerian workers but Nigerians today as a result of the policies of the federal government.

“Together, in a reasonable dialogue, we can work to give Nigerian workers a N615,000 (Six hundred and Fifteen thousand Naira) National Minimum wage as proposed by us on the basis of evidence and Data. This will be in keeping with the pledge of the President; his Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s pledge to ensure a Living wage for Nigerian workers.”

President Bola Tinubu has called the Centre Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to halt the implementation of the cybersecurity levy policy and however asked for a review.

This followed the recent introduction of a 0.5% cybersecurity levy on all electronic transactions by the CBN based on the provisions of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) (Amendment) Act 2024.

According to the Act, the charges deducted from all electronic transactions will be remitted to the National Cybersecurity Fund supervised by the Office of the National Security Adviser.

As stated in the circular, this is expected to commence by May 20, 2024, but the president has asked the CBN to stop the implementation of the policy.

Also it could be recalled that the National Assembly also last week Commended the CBN to withhold the controversial cybersecurity levy and also asked the CBN to withdraw its circular directing all banks to commence charging a 0. 5 percent cybersecurity levy on all electronic transactions in the Nation.
A senior presidency official, who spoke to ThePunch about the controversial policy said President Tinubu does not want to add to the burden of Nigerians.

The source said, “The President is sensitive to what Nigerians feel. And he will not want to proceed with implementing a policy that adds to the burden of the people.

“So, he has asked the CBN to hold off on that policy and ordered a review. I would have said he ordered the CBN, but that is not appropriate because the CBN is autonomous. But he has asked the CBN to hold off on it and review things again.”

Another anonymous source in the presidency said the president ordered the review of the policy because he did not want his administration to be seen as insensitive.

“If you look at it, the law predates the Tinubu administration. It was enacted in 2015 and signed by Goodluck Jonathan. It is only being implemented now.

“You know he (Tinubu) was not around when that directive was being circulated. And he does not want to present his government as being insensitive. As it is now, the CBN has held off the instruction to banks to start charging people. So, the President is sensitive. His goal is not to just tax Nigerians like that. That is not his intention. So, he has ordered a review of that law,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had threatened to mobilise Nigerians and shut down the county if the Federal Government failed to reverse the policy.

The union said it is illogical for the CBN to impose a new levy on citizens who are already dealing with multiple taxation from banks and the government.

In another development, the chairman Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Senator Shehu Umar Buba, APC Bauch South said the cybersecurity levy introduced by CBN was not targeted at individuals or ordinary bank customers.

In a statement issued by Senator Buba last Sunday in Abuja , who sponsored the amendment bill noted that the relevant section of the Cybercrime Act is very clear about the businesses that are required to pay the levy, not the citizens.

He said, “The Act is very explicit about who is responsible for the payment, not Nigerian citizens or individuals. The relevant Section of the Cybercrime Act 2015 listed the businesses required to pay the levy: telecommunications companies, Internet Service Providers, Banks, Insurance Companies, the Nigerian Stock Exchange, and other Financial Institutions.

“The organisations in the sectors have been listed in previous circulars by the Central Bank of Nigeria, especially in 2018. The new circular by the CBN further provided many exemptions.”

He said “It is either 0.005 or 0.5% arithmetically. The figure in the principal act was 0.005 as a fraction, which was converted to the percentage that became 0.5% in the amendment. Therefore, the statistics in fractions and percentages are the same.”

Also Babu said, “The passage of the amendment bill was a collaborative effort involving the government, industry players, civil society;

“…and academia in the contributions and active participation in the public hearing before and endorsement by the two chambers of the National Assembly. After rigorous processes, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the bill into law in February 2024.”

The Senator acknowledged the concerns of Nigerians, civil groups, and other stakeholders about the current economic situation, but was reassured that implementing the cybersecurity law was not meant to punish citizens.

He emphasised that the levy is a collective effort to protect national security and the economy, with the financial burden primarily falling on the specified businesses.

“The Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act 2024, which President Tinubu signed into law in February, imposes a 0.5 percent (0.005) levy equivalent to half the value of all electronic transactions by the businesses specified in the Second Schedule of the Act.

“The levy will be remitted to the National Cybersecurity Fund, which the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) shall administer.

“The circular announcing the levy also exempted some transactions from the cybercrime levy, including loan disbursements and repayments, salary payments, intra-account transfers, and other financial transactions.”

National Democratic Coalition (NADECO USA) has condemned the unfolding events in Rivers State orchestrated by the former governor of Rivers State and now Minister of FCT, Mr. Nyesom Wike, and called for the peace deal brokered by Tinubu to be rejected outright in order for Good Governance and the Rule of Law to Prevail.

In press statement signed by the Publicity Secretary, NADECO USA, Comrade David Adenakan, and made available to newsmen, the group said that the conflict revolves around the people of Rivers State uniting against the perceived tyranny of one individual who sees himself as an emperor.

“This struggle is a battle between good and evil, democracy versus anti-democratic principles, and the pursuit of good governance against political machinations and godfatherism”, they group disclosed.

The statement further reads:

PRESS STATEMENT

1. The crisis in Rivers State transcends tribal and ethnic divides. Chants of “Ha Izon, Izon keme Mi? Asawana, Ikwerre Anu Meka, Ekpeye Mikani O, etc” are misguided, as the issue is not about upland versus riverine or Ijaw versus Ikwerre.

2. At its core, the conflict revolves around the people of Rivers State uniting against the perceived tyranny of one individual who sees himself as an emperor. This struggle is a battle between good and evil, democracy versus anti-democratic principles, and the pursuit of good governance against political machinations and godfatherism.

3. The role of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in resolving this crisis is questionable. Instead of internal resolution, it is perplexing that individuals like Mr. Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are involved in inviting Fubara and Wike to Abuja. Governor Fubara’s willingness to engage with Mr. Tinubu and the APC raises concerns about his independence and the sincerity of the PDP’s internal conflict resolution efforts. Literally, it is as if Governor Fubara willingly presented his neck on the chopping board for Wike, Tinubu, and APC to chop off.

4. Wike is destroying PDP in Rivers State for the benefit of Tinubu and APC, Tinubu is tutoring Wike on godfatherism and how to bankrupt Rivers State. It is therefore an irony that Fubara goes to Tinubu and the APC to resolve a PDP matter. Both Tinubu and Wike are fomenting the crisis because they are the ultimate beneficiaries of the outcome.

5. The people of Rivers State must stand united against the influence of Wike, Tinubu, and the APC. The proposed agreement should be rejected, as Governor Fubara serves the people of Rivers State, not the interests of Wike or Tinubu. The resistance against external manipulation and the preservation of the state’s autonomy are paramount.

6. Consequently, National Democratic Coalition (NADECO USA) condemns the unfolding events in Rivers State orchestrated by the former governor of Rivers State and now Minister of FCT, Mr. Nyesom Wike, and calls for the settlement by Tinubu to be rejected outright in order for Good Governance and the Rule of Law to Prevail.

NADECO USA needs no introduction as Nigeria’s premier and foremost pro-democracy organization dedicated to promoting democracy, good governance, and the rule of law in Nigeria. Comprising individuals committed to the principles of democracy, NADECO USA advocates for the rights and well-being of Nigerian citizens.

The recent tumultuous political events in Rivers State, particularly the escalating conflict between former Governor Nyesom Wike and Governor Sim Fubara, bring to mind Socrates’ prophetic words on democracy. Socrates, around 470-399 B.C., foresaw a grim future for democracy, asserting that it would crumble under the weight of accommodating Thieves and Fraudsters and the Rise of a Worse Dictatorship with dubious intentions.

Thieves and fraudsters, seeking important government roles, would exploit the democratic system to attain positions of authority. Socrates warned that when individuals with criminal and malevolent motives democratically ascend to power, the result would be a more oppressive dictatorship than what might be experienced under traditional forms of governance like monarchy or oligarchy.

As we witness the unfolding political drama in Rivers State, Socrates’ ancient insights resonate with a disconcerting relevance. The clash between Wike and Fubara serves as a contemporary illustration of the challenges democracy faces when confronted by individuals with less-than- scrupulous intentions. The cautionary words of Socrates encourage reflection on the potential pitfalls of democratic systems when not safeguarded against manipulation by those who seek power for nefarious purposes.

The National Democratic Coalition (NADECO USA) expresses deep concern over the unfolding political turmoil in Rivers State, Nigeria, where the former governor Nyesom Wike was allegedly orchestrating and telegraphing the impeachment of the sitting governor, Sir Sim Fubara, from Abuja.

NADECO USA, an advocate for democracy, good governance, and the rule of law, firmly believes in the importance of upholding these principles for the benefit of the people of Rivers State. The organization is deeply troubled by the potential ramifications of Mr. Wike’s actions, which could escalate ethnic tensions between the Ijaws and the Ikwerres in the Niger Delta region and, by extension, the entire nation.

NADECO appeals to the people of Rivers State to Reject the so-called Agreement reached by Wike and Fubara.

Political agreements of this nature are capable of destroying our democracy as they carry significant implications and consequences. So, Mr. Bola Tinubu is now a court of law where political parties can resolve their differences. By implication, Tinubu has overruled a subsisting injunction issued by a court of competent jurisdiction in Port Harcourt. Stakeholders and the public must voice their concerns and opinions to uphold transparency and accountability in this matter.

NADECO shares the deep concerns of millions of Nigerians in general and the people of Rivers State regarding the terms and potential implications of the so-called agreement.

NADECO maintains that the agreement is undoubtedly coercive and intimidating, and as such, advocates for its outright rejection. Governor Fubara should be cautious not to allow himself to be manipulated by Tinubu. The agreement, as we know, is one-sided, leaving Governor Fubara exposed to the plots of the former governor, Chief Wike, while strengthening his adversaries. The proposed terms, particularly the return of power levers to Wike’s control, do not guarantee a favorable political future for Governor Fubara.

NADECO encourages Governor Fubara to stand firm and continue with the process of uncoupling and dismantling Wike’s political structures. This would safeguard the interest of the people of Rivers State, give him the freedom to govern and also contribute to the preservation of the democratic values we hold dear.

The Niger Delta, particularly Rivers State, plays a crucial role as the breadbasket of Nigeria. Any crisis in this region has the potential to escalate quickly, affecting not only the residents of Rivers State but the entire nation. NADECO USA urges all parties involved to prioritize the well-being of the people and the stability of the region.

Truth be told, Mr. Wike, the immediate past executive governor of Rivers State wants to replicate what Mr. Bola Tinubu did in Lagos State since the return of democracy in 1999. Mr. Wike is a Tinubu wannabe. Period! During his tenure as the governor of Rivers State, he used the state’s resources to intimidate and bully Rivers people into submission.

Mr. Tinubu who is Wike’s mentor was exactly what Wike is trying to duplicate in Rivers State – a Machiavellian operator who has rigged himself to become the President of a very powerful black nation in the world, while Wike was and still is a belligerent combatant that found his way as a LGA Chairman, Chief of Staff to a governor, double stint minister, of which we must all accept even grudgingly, that he has successfully turned himself to a political terror in the Nigerian context.
Tinubu himself was a power-hungry politician with a reputation for destroying democratic values and dehumanizing Lagosians.

Wike is exactly the same. If we could recall, Tinubu made kings and expected returns from them in various people. Similarly, Wike is attempting to make kings, sit on their scrotums, and demand financial returns from them.
For example, Mr. Tinubu was on Governors Fashola’s and Ambode’s throats from the beginning to the end of their terms when they tried to stray from the family plan he gave to them, fleecing and shaking down the resources of Lagos State.

Well, it worked for Tinubu in Lagos why should it not work for me in Rivers State, asked Mr. Wike. For some reason, Mr. Tinubu managed to keep the people of Lagos under wraps but whether Mr. Wike is able to hold the people of Rivers State down as Tinubu did in Lagos remains to be seen.
By the way, where is the structure that Mr. Wike keeps referring to? Could the structure be the mafioso votes secured for Tinubu during the flawed 2023 presidential election? There was no free and fair election conducted in Rivers State during the 2023 elections.

For the record, NADECO USA doesn’t endorse godfatherism and mafia politics, in fact, NADECO despises them.

The people of Rivers State woke up to an unnecessary and unneeded embarrassment after watching their former governor singing On Your Mandate and dancing like Klint the Drunk for Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila.
Wike seems to resemble the case of a man who never dreamt of taking the Ozo traditional chieftaincy title, but eventually did. Instead of wearing the symbol on the leg, he decided to wear his on the neck!

Therefore, NADECO USA by this press release condemns Mr. Nyesom Wike’s attempts to interfere with the democratic process in Rivers State and unreservedly commends Governor Sim Fubara for his courage in confronting such actions.

The organization calls for an immediate cessation of any activities that could jeopardize the peace, security, and unity of Rivers State.
Generally, Nigerians are quick to say that politics is all about interest.

Yes, it is but the question is, whose interest? Most Nigerian politicians erroneously, of course, Mr. Wike included, believe that the interest referred to here is their personal interest. No not true. What is at stake in the burning crisis is in the state is the interest of the people of Rivers State, not Wike’s.

Therefore, NADECO USA hereby calls upon Mr. Wike to desist from what is perceived as political machinations and treacherous endeavors, and we state unequivocally clear that Rivers State is not his personal property.

Furthermore, NADECO USA encourages the people of Rivers State to reject any resolution of the crisis by Tinubu and his crony Wike. All political actors should engage in constructive dialogue, not destructive dialogue as Wike and Tinubu are pushing and uphold the rule of law, and work towards fostering good governance in Rivers State for the prosperity of its residents.

NADECO further calls on the relevant agencies to thoroughly investigate the recent allegations made by a member of the National Assembly, Hon. Boma Goodhead, concerning the death of a DPO and also the funds earmarked for the Ogoni oil cleanup project. It is important to note that some traditional rulers in Ahoada East are currently in custody regarding the death of the same DPO spoken about by the National Assembly member.
NADECO USA remains committed to promoting democracy, human rights, and the well-being of citizens, urging all stakeholders to embrace dialogue and peaceful resolution to preserve the harmony and stability of Rivers State.

An Elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, has said that the directives issued Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State as resolution of the political crisis in the state are not only appalling, but also unacceptable, particularly to the Ijaw ethnic nationality.

The Ijaw leader said that he was threatening to take legal action against President Bola Tinubu.

Clark said Tinubu’s actions have shown his dislike and disdain for the Ijaw people and confirms his hatred for them.

He said “as the leader of the Ijaw, we will resist it”.

Recall that the directives were given at a meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu and attended by the governor and other Rivers stakeholders at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday night.

Clark described the communique issued at the end of the reconciliatory meeting by President Tinubu to resolve the crisis in Rivers State as baffling, appalling and unacceptable to the people.

He said that the eight-point resolution was undemocratic, dictatorial, one-sided, geared towards handing over the political leadership of Rivers State to the former governor now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, Nyesom Wike.

According to the elder statesman, strong indication emerged that from the terms of settlement, it is obvious that President Tinubu sees his role as a mediator, to once again, show gratitude to Wike for “delivering” Rivers State to him during the presidential elections, having first of gratified him by making him the Minister of FCT.

He urged President Tinubu to respect the constitution under which he sworn an oath.

Clark said that Governor Fubara should disown the purported agreement, speak out to Nigerians that he did not sign that agreement, and that he is not owing anybody any obligation.

27 Rivers lawmakers dump PDP for APC
‘Tinubu should respect Constitution’
His words: “Tinubu should respect the constitution under shich he sworn an oath.

“We still love him, we still believe in his leadership as President of Nigeria and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.

“But as citizens of this country, we have a right to reject any of his obnoxious directive.”

Clark said that he observed that the composition of the attendees of the meeting was one sided in favour of Wike.

“While Martins Amaewhule, a former Speaker, (because he has automatically lost his seat the very moment he decamped to another political party), was present at the meeting, it would have only been equitable and expedient, for Edison Ehie, the Speaker as affirmed by constitutional provisions and by the granting of the court, to be in the meeting, if there were sincerity of purpose.”

The South South leader said that the eight resolutions reached, “are the most unconstitutional, absurd and obnoxious resolutions at settling feuding parties that I have ever witnessed in my life.

“As a matter of fact, some media captured it very well when they described it as directives. And for the fact that such thing was done at the Villa, the seat of the Federal Government of Nigeria, is sacrilegious, because any place housing or is a custodian of symbol of authority, ought to be sacred.

“It is obvious that Governor Siminialayi Fubara was ambushed and intimidated into submission.

“President Tinubu should know that with all the powers he possesses, he cannot override the Constitution.

The post Rivers Crisis: Purported 8-point resolution undemocratic, one-sided, unacceptable, We’ll Resist it – Clark first appeared on National Ambassador News.
