Abia State was created on August 27, 1991, by the military government of Ibrahim Babangida. It was carved out of the old Imo State, with its capital at Umuahia.

Since then, the state has been administered by both military administrations and elected civilian governors. Several military officers governed the state prior to the return of democracy, including Frank Ajobena, Chinyere Ike Nwosu, Temi Ejoor, Moses Fasanya and Anthony Obi.

The civilian governors include Ogbonnaya Onu (1992–1993) during the Third Republic; Orji Uzor Kalu (1999–2007); Theodore Orji (2007–2015); Okezie Ikpeazu (2015–2023); and the incumbent governor, Alex Otti, who assumed office on May 29, 2023.

Indeed, successive administrations have contributed their quota to the growth and development of the state. However, the present administration under Governor Otti has surpassed them all. In other words, Governor Otti’s achievements in transforming the state stand out as remarkable and verifiable.

Apparently, the transformation of the state under Governor Otti can only be likened to that of Nehemiah of Jerusalem. Consider the profile of Nehemiah: he was a high-ranking official in the Persian court in the city of Shushan. Yet, his life of comfort did not diminish his concern for the welfare of his Jewish brothers in faraway Jerusalem. When a delegation from Jerusalem visited and told him that the people were “in a very bad plight” and that the city’s wall was “broken down,” Nehemiah wept.

His concern for Jerusalem and compassion for the Jews living there moved him to act. Within two action-packed months, the entire wall of Jerusalem was rebuilt. Nehemiah later wrote that those who opposed the repair work were forced to acknowledge that “it was from our God that this work has been done.”

Similarly, Dr. Alex Otti came from the banking sector, where he made a name and carved a niche for himself. Like Nehemiah, his life of comfort did not diminish his concern for his people, Ndi Abia, who had been unfairly treated and whose living standards had declined to an all-time low. Determined to change the narrative, he contested and was elected governor of Abia State, with the campaign slogan, “Weep No More.”

Soon after assuming office, Dr. Otti set out to transform the state and raise the living standards of its people.

Realising that a good road network is critical infrastructure for economic growth, safety and social connectivity, he began the construction and reconstruction of strategic and economically viable roads, with emphasis on quality. According to a book on Community Feedback, “Quality infrastructure is linked to reduced transport costs, faster travel time and improved access to essential services and markets.”

The road revolution of Governor Otti began with the expansion of Ossah Road in Umuahia into a six-lane boulevard. The boulevard has since been completed and commissioned, alongside other projects such as the Umuahia–Abiriba Road, Port Harcourt Road in Aba, and the recently reconstructed Omenuko Bridge, among many others.

Beyond road infrastructure, Governor Otti has also recorded milestones in the construction and retrofitting of government offices to enhance the aesthetics of Umuahia and Aba, the economic hub of the South-East. For instance, from Michael Okpara Roundabout through Bank Road stands the newly renovated Michael Okpara Auditorium, the newly built office complex of the Secretary to the State Government, and other impressive structures that make the area attractive and inviting.

Other developments include traffic lights opposite the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, and another at the Aba Road junction. Along the Umuahia–Ikwuano–Ikot Ekpene highway are ultra-modern bus stops and massive artworks stretching towards Ibeku High School, as well as structures around the Local Government Service Commission, the BCA Administrative Complex and the Abia State Secretariat.

Furthermore, an ultra-modern Central Bus Terminal at Isi Gate is nearing completion. Indeed, the cities of Umuahia and Aba are gradually being rebuilt, beautified and made more orderly.

According to a journal on Environmental Research and Public Health, “City beautification is a key component of urban regeneration. It aims to cultivate a more civilised urban lifestyle and attract both investment and highly skilled workers.” In other words, beautification of a town or state fosters community pride, improves mental well-being and drives economic growth. It is often described as more than cosmetic enhancement but a reflection of the healthy will of its residents.

As Sunday Adelaja once observed, “Without order in your life, you will realise that you will be busy without commensurate results.” Rajendra Muthye also noted that “orderliness is the prerequisite for being on time anywhere and everywhere.”

In all, like Nehemiah of Jerusalem, Governor Alex Otti is gradually rebuilding Abia State. Therefore, it is imperative that Ndi Abia give him the necessary support and cooperation to realise the new Abia of our collective dream.

Abia-born businessman and seasoned entrepreneur, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, has called on Nigerian youths to embrace entrepreneurship, innovation, and responsible leadership as critical drivers of sustainable national development.

Anyaso made the call while delivering the opening address as Chairman of the 5th Anniversary and Extraordinary Convention of Progressive Abia Youths, themed “Reimagining Governance: Youth Leadership, Technology and Sustainable National Development — Appraising Our Journey, Organizing the Future.”

He said the era of passive participation among young people is over, urging youths to move beyond complaints and become active stakeholders in governance, economic productivity, and nation-building.

According to him, entrepreneurship remains one of the most effective training grounds for leadership, as it builds discipline, accountability, problem-solving capacity, and economic independence—qualities required for effective governance.

Speaking on recent developments in Abia State, Anyaso commended the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti for what he described as a visible transition from promises to performance.

He noted that renewed public confidence, ongoing infrastructure development, and purposeful governance have become evident in the state, stressing that such progress must be protected through continuity.

Anyaso therefore urged stakeholders and young people to support reforms aimed at repositioning Abia State for sustainable growth.

He further challenged youths to adopt a new mindset focused on value creation, technology adoption, skills development, and innovation rather than dependence on government employment.

Declaring the convention open, Anyaso encouraged participants to think boldly, build capacity, lead with integrity, and position themselves as architects of Nigeria’s future.

The convention attracted youth leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders committed to advancing youth inclusion in governance and national development.

The post Anyaso Urges Youths to Embrace Enterprise, Leadership first appeared on National Ambassador News.

Residents and traders around the Industrial Layout in Aba have recounted tense moments of panic and uncertainty after a fire outbreak engulfed stacks of plastic crates at a facility linked to Nigerian Breweries Plc on Thursday afternoon, with economic losses estimated to run into hundreds of millions of naira.

The blaze, which started at about 4:10 p.m., quickly sent thick smoke billowing into the sky, drawing crowds of onlookers and sparking fears that the fire could spread to nearby homes, businesses and petrol stations in the densely populated commercial area.

Eyewitnesses said what began as a faint column of smoke rapidly escalated into a raging fire as flames spread across piles of empty plastic crates stored at the open facility.

“I first noticed smoke rising from the direction of the depot,” said Mr. Ibenyi Okafor, a trader who operates near the facility. “Within minutes, the fire spread across the crates. The smoke became very thick and people started shouting and running.”

Many traders said they initially feared the inferno might reach surrounding buildings, forcing some shop owners and food vendors to hurriedly remove valuables from their stalls.

Mrs. Ngozi Nwankwo, who runs a small eatery close to the depot, described the moment the fire intensified as chaotic.

“People were screaming and calling the fire service,” she said. “Some workers tried to move items away from the fire, but the flames were already too strong. Everyone was afraid it might spread to nearby buildings.”

The facility where the fire occurred is located in an open space leased from the Nigerian Railway Corporation, and company officials later clarified that only empty plastic crates were affected while the main brewing plant remained unharmed.

Emergency responders from the Abia State Fire Service and other agencies arrived shortly after the alarm was raised, battling the blaze for several hours before finally bringing it under control shortly before 6 p.m.

For many residents, the sight of firefighters working tirelessly to contain the flames brought relief that what could have become a major disaster was eventually prevented.

Officials confirmed that no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded in the incident.

During an inspection visit to the site, Abia State Governor Alex Chioma Otti commended the swift and coordinated response of emergency agencies, noting that their prompt intervention helped prevent the fire from spreading further.

“Looking at that place, it’s probably the last place that you’ll expect to have a fire incident because it was just on its own, in an open field, so anything could have happened,” the governor said.

“It could be a match, it could be a cigarette or anything but you should be prepared like the boys scout will say while we pray it doesn’t happen again,” he added.

The governor also explained that the location of the affected facility initially made it difficult to immediately identify it as belonging to the brewery.

“It was much later after the incident have been contained that I knew it was Nigerian brewery because it is far away from here. When we tried to locate the place, from our digital device, it didn’t point to Nigeria Breweries,” he said.

Governor Otti further acknowledged the long-standing presence of the brewery in Abia State and assured the company of continued government support.

“You have been here for almost seventy years and that’s good. All we owe you is an enabling environment for your business to continue to do well,” he said.

“This is a place where all Nigerians gather and are working together. That is what the new Abia speaks about. Here we don’t have state of origin and we are all equal.”

Company officials said the fire started after smoke was detected at the storage area, prompting workers to activate internal emergency procedures before contacting external fire services.

Engr. Benjamin Okore, Chief Engineer at the brewery, explained that the affected section was not part of the main brewing plant.

“The place where the fire incident happened is an open space, a lease facility by the Nigerian Railway Corporation,” he said. “Empty crates without bottles were affected while the main brewery plant was not impacted.”

He added that the company deployed its internal firefighting equipment and hydrant systems immediately after the alarm was raised, while also requesting assistance from government fire agencies.

“There was so much team spirit and speed in action. They arrived on time and together as teamwork we were able to contain the fire completely,” Okore said.

Authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, residents around the area say the incident has renewed concerns about fire safety in the city’s busy commercial districts, noting that the consequences could have been far worse if the flames had spread beyond the storage area.

As Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr. marks his birthday on April 11, 2026, many across Obingwa-West State Constituency and beyond are reflecting not just on his current role in the Abia State House of Assembly, but on a long history of service that has consistently left meaningful footprints in the lives of ordinary people.

For many public officials, offices come and go. But for Erondu Jnr., the impact of the offices he once occupied has continued to speak long after he left them.

Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr

From his time as Chairman of Obingwa Local Government Area to his service in the Abia State Government and other strategic positions, his years in public office were marked by a deliberate commitment to improving the welfare of the people, particularly the poor and vulnerable.

Those who witnessed his tenure in Obingwa still recall a period when leadership was closely connected to the grassroots. Many of the interventions he initiated then; community support programmes, assistance for struggling families, and empowerment opportunities for youths among others, laid the foundation for the larger programmes he runs today.

Even after leaving those offices, the spirit of benevolence never slowed nor abated

Across communities in Obingwa LGA, countless families can point to moments when Erondu Jnr. stepped in quietly to provide helps like: paying school fees, supporting small businesses, providing shelter for the homeless, and offering assistance to widows, farmers, and young people seeking opportunities among others.

These acts of generosity have translated into measurable outcomes. Thousands of students who benefited from educational sponsorships are today pursuing higher education or building careers. Farmers empowered with agricultural support have increased productivity and improved their livelihoods. Families once without homes now live with dignity in houses built through his interventions.

Perhaps more telling than the projects themselves is the response from the people.

In villages and communities across the constituency, his name often comes up in conversations about leadership that listens and responds. Beneficiaries of his programmes frequently say that their appreciation goes beyond words, insisting that the depth of their support for him is rooted in years of visible commitment to their welfare.

This strong grassroots connection remains why many believe that Erondu Jnr.’s journey in leadership is far from its peak.

As preparations build for the birthday celebration and empowerment programme in his honour, the event is expected to once again reflect his long-standing culture of giving back to the people. The initiative will feature the distribution of 150 brand-new motorcycles, alongside 15 mini buses, trucks, tippers, and cars, providing beneficiaries with critical tools for transportation, logistics, and income generation.

For many recipients, these items represent more than material support; they are opportunities for economic independence and long-term stability, capable of transforming households and supporting livelihoods across communities.

Supporters often argue that the level of development he has facilitated even within limited opportunities demonstrates what could be achieved if he were entrusted with broader responsibilities. They believe his experience, network, and understanding of community needs position him to attract even greater democratic dividends to Obingwa LGA, Abia South, and Abia State at large.

As the celebration unfolds, many see it not simply as a festivity but as a reaffirmation of the enduring bond between a leader and his people.

For those who have experienced his kindness and interventions over the years, the message is clear: leadership for Elder Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr. has never been about occupying positions, rather it has always been about using every opportunity to touch lives.

And by the grace of God, many believe that if greater opportunities come his way, the scale of his impact will only grow bigger, bringing even greater transformation to the people he has long served.

The Abia State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Alex Otti, commending his administration for what it described as deliberate efforts to improve governance and the welfare of citizens.

Addressing Journalists at the State Secretariat on Thursday in Umuahia, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization said its decision followed a careful assessment of developments in the state over the past three years, noting that the government has recorded significant progress across key sectors, including healthcare, education, infrastructure, and the civil service.

The group through its State Publicity Secretary, Hon Godwin Adindu, said that Governor Otti’s leadership has brought about tremendous transformation, highlighting reforms that have enhanced service delivery and expanded opportunities for residents.

It particularly praised the ongoing infrastructural renewal in Aba, describing the commercial hub as central to Igbo identity and economic life.

According to Ohanaeze, the Governor’s interventions in Aba have restored confidence and positioned the city as a symbol of Igbo resilience, innovation, and enterprise.

The organization also applauded the restructuring of the civil service, pointing the regular and timely payment of salaries and pensions as major relief for workers and retirees.

It added that the administration has created a more conducive environment for businesses to thrive, boosting economic activities in the state.

“You all know that Aba, Enyimba City, is a cardinal city for Ndigbo. It is a city that is central to the life of Ndigbo. Almost every Igbo family has some root or connection to Aba. So the Governor’s massive infrastructural renewal of Aba has gained the admiration and commendation of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, such that Governor Otti is today the pride of Ndigbo as he represents the Igbo spirit of innovation, industry, resilence and entrepreneurship”.

In the area of culture, Ohanaeze commended the establishment of the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, as well as, policies aimed at promoting Igbo heritage, including making Igbo language compulsory in secondary schools and encouraging the use of traditional attire among government officials and workers, adding that such initiatives reflect a strong commitment to preserving Igbo identity while advancing socio-economic development.

“It is in the light of these intentional efforts to reposition Abia State and the identity of Ndigbo that Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Abia state chapter is passing a vote of confidence on Governor Otti. This serves as a motivation for him to continue to render people- centric services to the state.

“In the same spirit, Ohanaeze Ndigbo will continue to recognize our outstanding leaders and illustrous Igbo sons and daughters who are carving distinctive niche in their areas of endeavour and particularly in promoting and defending the Igbo cause as a major tribe in the Nigerian federation”, it added

The organization further expressed optimism that the commendation would encourage the Governor to sustain people-oriented policies and further reposition Abia State.

Ohanaeze also disclosed its commitment to recognizing and supporting outstanding Igbo leaders and individuals contributing to the advancement of the Igbo nation within Nigeria and beyond.

The State Publicity Secretary, Hon Godwin Adindu, urged opposition parties in the state to adopt constructive criticism in their engagements, stressing that while opposition remains vital to democracy, it should not be driven by bitterness or hostility.

He noted that opposition critiques play a key role in shaping governance, describing them as an essential component of a thriving democratic system.

“Democracy cannot thrive without an alternative voice. While we project our efforts, the opposition is expected to scrutinize them. However, what we are witnessing in Abia today is unnecessary hostility. The Governor remains open to constructive ideas”, he said.

Adindu further decried the misuse of social media, lamenting that it has become a platform for propaganda and unwarranted attacks aimed at discrediting the government. He emphasized that such actions are misleading and counterproductive, urging critics to channel their voices toward meaningful contributions that can positively influence governance.

He also stressed the importance of safeguarding the state’s ancestral heritage, particularly as the nation approaches another election cycle. According to him, preserving cultural identity should take precedence over political interests.

Adindu explained that the press briefing was organized to strengthen ties with journalists and update them on the group’s activities. He called on the media to collaborate with the Igbo socio-cultural organization in promoting and preserving the culture and identity of the people.

In his vote of thanks, the Assistant Publicity Secretary, Chief Obinna Ibe, also appealed for media partnership, noting that the group’s mission to defend and promote the Igbo heritage cannot be achieved without the support of the press.

The Abia State Leadership Caucus of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has distanced the party from the actions of Don Norman Obinna, declaring that he lacks the authority to act or speak as the party’s chairman in the state.

The position was reached during a meeting of party leaders held at the ADC State Secretariat in Umuahia, where the caucus reviewed the ongoing leadership dispute and reaffirmed its commitment to due process, party discipline, and the rule of law.

Among those present at the meeting were Senator Austine Akobundu, representing Abia Central; Uko Nkole; and Okey Igwe, alongside other party stakeholders.

Presenting the communiqué on behalf of the caucus, Nkole cited a subsisting interim injunction issued by the Abia State High Court on December 3, 2025, restraining Obinna from parading himself or acting as the chairman of the party in Abia State pending the determination of the case.

The caucus also referenced the findings of the ADC South-East Zonal Disciplinary Committee contained in a report dated September 25, 2025, which clarified the party’s position regarding Obinna’s conduct and status.

According to the caucus, Obinna’s continued claim to the leadership of the party in the state is unlawful and misleading, describing it as a violation of party discipline and a disregard for a valid court order. It therefore declared that any meetings, directives, or public engagements carried out by him in the name of the party are null and void.

The caucus reaffirmed Kanu O. Kanu as the Acting State Chairman of the ADC in Abia State pending the conduct of the party’s state congresses.

It also urged the general public, security agencies, and relevant stakeholders to disregard any statements or actions attributed to Obinna in the capacity of ADC chairman.

The caucus further expressed confidence in the leadership of the party at the national level under David Mark, reiterating its commitment to unity, discipline, and respect for constituted authority within the party.

The post Abia ADC Caucus Disowns Obinna, Reaffirms Kanu as Acting Chairman first appeared on National Ambassador News.

The Civil Service Commission has announced that 50 additional nurses will soon be recruited into the state civil service following the approval of Governor Alex Chioma Otti.

Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Eno Jerry, disclosed this during a press briefing while providing an update on the ongoing recruitment process in the state, particularly within the health sector.

According to her, the earlier recruitment exercise conducted by the Commission was designed to address critical manpower gaps in the health sector but was limited to an approved quota of 500 positions. As a result, several qualified candidates could not be absorbed at the time.

Jerry explained that the Commission anticipated future manpower needs and therefore retained the records of those qualified but unabsorbed candidates in its Human Resource database.

With the governor’s recent approval for the engagement of 50 additional nurses, the Commission said it would first select candidates from this pool of previously screened applicants who met the requirements but were not accommodated during the initial exercise.

She added that if the number falls short after exhausting the pool, the Commission would then consider candidates who were earlier deemed unsuitable solely because they had not completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme at the time of the recruitment.

According to the Commission, some of those candidates have since completed their NYSC and may now qualify for appointment.

Jerry emphasized that the process is intended to promote fairness, efficiency and transparency while ensuring that already vetted candidates are given priority.

She reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to merit, due process and improved service delivery in the state civil service.

The post Abia to Recruit Additional Nurses – CSC first appeared on National Ambassador News.

The Abia State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has commended the Governor of Abia State, Alex Chioma Otti, for his prompt intervention in providing support to Abia students studying at the University of Jos amid recent challenges in Plateau State.

In a statement issued by the Chapter Chairman, Onyinye Ralph-Nwachukwu, the institute described the governor’s swift response to the welfare needs of the students as a demonstration of responsive and people-oriented leadership.

Ralph-Nwachukwu noted that the provision of palliatives to the affected students, despite their being outside the state, underscores the governor’s commitment to the wellbeing and safety of Abians wherever they may be.

She added that the intervention brought relief and renewed confidence among the students during a period of uncertainty and concern.

According to her, the gesture reflects empathy, responsibility and a deep sense of duty to the people.

“This action by the governor is a shining example of leadership that listens and responds effectively to the needs of its citizens,” she said.

The Abia NIPR chapter therefore applauded the governor for the initiative and encouraged other leaders to emulate such proactive and compassionate governance.

The institute also prayed for continued wisdom, strength and good health for Governor Otti as he continues to lead the state.

The post Abia NIPR Hails Otti’s Lifeline to UniJos Students first appeared on National Ambassador News.

An elite group, under the aegis of Vanguard Movement for Continuity (VMC), has endorsed the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, for a second term in office, stating that it is “Otti or nothing”.

A member of the group also used the occasion to launch a book, titled “Threats to Societal Values and Advancement”. The book raised alarm at the high level of moral decadence in society.

Speaking at the occasion, which was held at Adventist Technical Secondary College (ASTEC), Owerrinta, Isialangwa South Local Government Area of Abia, the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, thanked the group for publicly endorsing the Governor.

Rt. Hon. Emeruwa, who represented the Governor at the event, stated that the Governor merits a second term in office due to his outstanding performance, noting that it would also allow him to complete the numerous ongoing projects across the state. He further described the scale of development as unprecedented.

He stated that, unlike in the past, Abians are now proud of their state, with many returning home to contribute to its development. He added that progress is being recorded simultaneously across all sectors, stressing that Otti is not just an option but a God-sent leader poised to revive Abia.

Also speaking, the General Manager of the Abia State Debt Management Office and BOT leader of the Alex Otti Vanguard Movement for Continuity, Dr. Elder Kingsley Nwaigburu, described the group as an inclusive platform that welcomes everyone committed to good governance, believes in Alex Otti, and is eager to see him re-elected in 2027. He noted that their large turnout was a clear demonstration of their endorsement of the Governor for a second term in office.

He maintained that the Governor is a gift to Abia, noting that he has cleared outstanding arrears of salaries and pensions owed by previous administrations, built hospitals and smart schools, reconstructed long-neglected roads and bridges, attracted foreign investors, improved security, and enhanced ease of doing business in the state.

Elder Nwaigburu also commended the author, Dr. Fineboy Joseph, for choosing this critical period, when the nation is grappling with serious moral and security challenges, to publish a book that draws attention to societal ills while offering solutions to moral decline.

He urged institutions and individuals to obtain and read the book, expressing hope that it would inspire people to fear God and uphold strong moral values, describing the work as timely, given the high level of moral decadence in society, adding that it not only highlights the challenges but also provides practical remedies to restore eroding values.

In his remarks, the author, Dr. Fineboy Joseph, a lecturer at Clifford University, Owerrinta, as well as, Director of General Studies and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Special and Management Sciences, said he was inspired to write the book by the growing level of moral decay in society. He added that he dedicated the book to Governor Alex Otti in recognition of his transformative efforts in the education sector.

He further explained that the book thoroughly examines threats to societal values and development, while offering practical solutions. Among the issues addressed are drug abuse, sexual promiscuity, secret cultism, kidnapping, inadequate funding of education, lack of integrity, corruption, and armed robbery, among others.

The author noted that over the years, the rising rate of moral decadence and social vices has largely gone unchecked, with key institutions such as the family, religious bodies, schools, communities, and government not doing enough to address the situation. He observed that nurturing the mind is often neglected in favour of the pursuit of wealth and fame, adding that the quest for material possessions now dominates, leading to an unprecedented decline in individual character.

The Vice Chancellor of Clifford University, Prof. Chimezie Allwell Omeonu, described the book launch as timely, particularly at a period when social media plays a dominant role in the lives of students. He urged both institutions and individuals to purchase and read the book.

Also speaking, Hon. Engr. Frank Iwuala, Secretary of Ndi Imo in Abia and former Chairman of Aba North LGA, said that having lived in Abia for many years, this is the first time he is witnessing what he described as true governance, marked by widespread infrastructural development across the state.

In his remarks, the Chief Executive of Holy Land Homes, Owerrinta, Dr. Gideon Nwandire, said the author, Dr. Fineboy Joseph, has been a benefactor to their organisation and has consistently supported the home. He added that bringing some of the children along to the event was their way of showing appreciation and solidarity, while wishing him success in all his endeavours.

The Bende Youths’ Consultative Forum, the apex socio-political youth body in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, has commended Governor Alex Chioma Otti for what it described as remarkable developmental progress across the state, particularly in communities within Bende Federal Constituency.

In a press statement issued by Emenike Okorie, the group expressed profound appreciation to the governor for his leadership style, which it said is anchored on transparency, inclusiveness, infrastructural renewal and people-oriented governance.

The Forum noted that since assuming office, Governor Otti has restored public confidence in governance and rekindled hope among Abians both within the state and in the diaspora.

The group also acknowledged the governor’s inclusive approach to governance through strategic appointments extended to sons and daughters of Bende Federal Constituency. It particularly commended the appointment of Frank Iheanyi Chinasa as Abia State Liaison Officer in Abuja, describing the move as recognition of Bende’s contributions to the unity and development of the state.

The youths further applauded the ongoing reconstruction of the Umuahia–Uzuakoli–Akara–Alayi–Igbere Road, noting that the project is already improving economic activities, enhancing connectivity and improving the living conditions of residents in the area.

While expressing appreciation, the Forum appealed to the state government to also consider additional road projects considered vital for rural integration and economic expansion. These include the Igbere–Ozuitem–Bende Road and the Isiegbu Ozuitem–Umuhu Ezechi–Amaeke Abam Ring Road, which it said would boost agricultural transportation, commerce and security access in the constituency.

The group also declared its support for the reelection of Governor Otti in 2027, stating that continuity of his administration would help consolidate ongoing reforms and sustain the current pace of development in Abia State.

According to the statement, a prominent son of Bende, Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, popularly known as Ofuji, is the founder and sole sponsor of the Otti Again 2027 Movement, a support group mobilizing citizens in support of the governor’s reelection.

The Forum further noted that Anyaso’s aspiration to represent Bende Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in 2027 presents a strategic opportunity for the area to attract greater federal presence and development.

It expressed optimism that effective federal representation, combined with Governor Otti’s ongoing transformation agenda at the state level, would accelerate inclusive development and expand opportunities for youth empowerment, infrastructure development, healthcare, education and economic growth in Bende Federal Constituency.

The Bende Youths’ Consultative Forum concluded by reaffirming its commitment to the vision of building a prosperous Abia State and pledged continued partnership in promoting good governance and sustainable development.

The post Bende Youths Commend Otti’s Developmental Strides, Back Him, Anyaso for 2027 first appeared on National Ambassador News.

The Chima Anyaso Foundation has concluded its OFUJI Movement ward-to-ward outreach across the 13 wards of Bende Federal Constituency, bringing humanitarian support to residents during the Lenten season.

The outreach ended on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, marking the grand finale of a tour designed to provide food items and financial assistance to families facing economic challenges.

The initiative, driven by philanthropist and business leader Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, reached communities across the constituency through what organisers described as the Direct Touch Initiative, a grassroots programme aimed at delivering practical support directly to residents.

Throughout the tour, the foundation’s team distributed relief materials and interacted with community members, providing assistance to households affected by rising living costs.

A prominent figure from Bende Federal Constituency, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, has called on Christians to strengthen their faith and live purposeful lives as they celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

In his Easter message to Christian faithful, Anyaso described the resurrection of Christ as a decisive victory over death and despair, noting that it reminds believers to rely wholly on the finished work of Christ on the cross.

He said the resurrection serves as a divine assurance that upliftment is not a distant promise but a reward that comes through sacrifice, faith, and dedication to God.

According to him, the season provides an opportunity for believers to reflect on the sacrifices they have made for Christ, including their time, comfort, and personal pleasures, with the assurance that God remembers and rewards such commitments.

The Ofuji Ndi Igbo further prayed that the same Spirit that raised Jesus Christ from the dead would uplift the lives of believers, strengthen their faith, and renew their zeal for God’s kingdom.

He also expressed hope that the message of Easter would bring comfort to those who are hurting, courage to the weary, and joy to the faithful.

Anyaso wished Christians a joyful Easter celebration and urged them to continue living in the light of Christ’s resurrection.

The post Anyaso Urges Stronger Faith, Hope as Christians Celebrate Easter first appeared on National Ambassador News.

Written by Jones Nnanna Ike

A few weeks ago—precisely on March 17, 2026—controversial activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, visited Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Eastern Nigeria. His stated purpose was to campaign for the release of jailed Biafran separatist leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

However, emerging facts from that visit—particularly his utterances during and after the trip—suggest that the mission may have had a more troubling undertone. Rather than a genuine advocacy effort, it appeared designed to cast aspersions on the growing popularity and performance of the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.

Governor Otti has, within a short span since assuming office on May 29, 2023, transformed Abia State from what was widely regarded as one of the least developed states in Southern Nigeria into one of the fastest-developing states in the country. This remarkable turnaround has earned the description “The Abia Miracle” among many analysts and commentators.

To properly understand the controversy surrounding Sowore’s visit, it is important to examine the context. First, Nnamdi Kanu is held by federal authorities, and his release lies primarily within the purview of the federal government, potentially through a presidential pardon. Logically, any meaningful campaign for his release would be directed toward centres of political power such as Abuja or Lagos—not a marketplace in Aba. This raises a fundamental question: what role do traders in Ariaria Market play in such a campaign? The answer is simple—none.

Furthermore, Sowore reportedly spent less than an hour in Ariaria. There is little evidence to suggest he had previously visited Abia State, especially before the current administration. Had he done so, he would have witnessed firsthand the severe infrastructural decay that once defined the state. He would also have been able to contrast that past with the ongoing transformation under Governor Otti.

Even the road leading to Ariaria Market, which Sowore traversed, has seen notable improvement. The cleaner environment he acknowledged today stands in stark contrast to the past, when the area was overwhelmed by filth and neglect. The notorious flooding problem known as “Ofe Obara,” which plagued the Ariaria axis for years, has now been resolved—something previous administrations failed to achieve.

This pattern of renewal is not limited to Aba alone; it reflects a broader statewide transformation.

Before Governor Otti took office, Abia struggled across multiple sectors. Infrastructure was in disrepair, roads were notoriously bad, and public services were failing. Today, the narrative has changed significantly. Over 400 roads have been reconstructed within two years. The education sector has received substantial investment, with about 20% of the state budget allocated to it. Lost accreditations in tertiary institutions have been restored, and massive construction projects are ongoing across campuses.

At the basic education level, the recruitment of 5,000 teachers through a merit-based process has strengthened the system—though such achievements are not immediately visible during a brief visit like Sowore’s. Similarly, the clearing of salary arrears and the consistent payment of workers’ salaries by the 28th of each month reflect a renewed commitment to governance.

In healthcare, the administration has embarked on large-scale reconstruction and upgrading of facilities across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels. The recruitment of over 700 health professionals further underscores this commitment.

Yet, governance goes beyond physical infrastructure. It is fundamentally about systems, processes, and institutional reforms. It involves transparency, accountability, and efficient service delivery. In this regard, the Otti administration has made significant strides.

From the outset, Governor Otti focused on restructuring governance institutions—introducing merit-based recruitment, enforcing rule-based administration, ensuring fiscal discipline, and promoting transparency in public procurement. Ministries, Departments, and Agencies have been reorganized for efficiency, while a culture of discipline, inclusiveness, and excellence has been instilled across the public service.

Against this backdrop, Sowore’s criticisms appear superficial. His approach reflects a tendency to judge governance by surface-level observations rather than by deep structural reforms. His criticism without any iota of facts or objectivity equates to a “naked dance” in Aba and can only be understood as a misreading of the realities on the ground.

The truth remains that Governor Otti has laid the foundation for a smart and effective governance system in Abia State. The transformation currently visible is only the beginning of what promises to be a sustained and far-reaching development trajectory.

The post Sowore’s “Naked Dance” in Aba first appeared on National Ambassador News.

Speaking on the theme; “Give to Gain: Driving Gender Inclusion and Collective Growth Through Responsible Communication,” Dr. Chukwu urged women to communicate responsibly, listen actively, speak with empathy, and amplify women’s voices in leadership, governance and business. He noted that responsible communication remains a powerful tool for breaking stereotypes, promoting fairness and creating inclusive opportunities for women in society.

According to him, the “Give to Gain” philosophy encourages professionals to contribute selflessly to their networks and communities through mentorship, knowledge sharing and support for initiatives that promote collective growth. He stressed that empowering women is vital to Nigeria’s development, noting that the inclusive participation of women in decision-making processes leads to stronger communities, improved social outcomes and sustainable economic progress.

Dr. Chukwu also highlighted the benefits of membership of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, noting that it provides networking opportunities, professional certifications, industry insights and platforms for career advancement. He encouraged women in public relations to mentor younger professionals, promote local businesses and cultural narratives, leverage social media for positive storytelling and support digital literacy among women and youth.

The communication scholar further celebrated the achievements of notable Nigerian women including Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization; Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, globally acclaimed writer; Obiageli Ezekwesili, policy expert and activist; Ibukun Awosika, business leader; and Nnenna Otti, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri.

She reaffirmed the Chapter’s commitment to organizing programmes and initiatives aimed at enhancing the skills, knowledge and professional capacity of its members.

She urged women to remain steadfast in advancing gender equity and inclusivity in both professional and societal spheres, describing the theme of the celebration as apt and timely. According to her, mentorship, collaboration and mutual support among women will further strengthen the public relations profession and expand opportunities for inclusive leadership.

Carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, the women of Umuda-Isingwu, in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, recently came out in their numbers all dressed in black attires, decrying how major parts of their lands have become habitation for Fulani herders.

In a peaceful protest to Government House, Umuahia, the women were seen carrying placards with inscriptions, such as, “Our Land is not for sale, Our women use the land for farming, we don’t have any other land, food is more important than housing, Gov Otti, save our children from going hungry”. While others read “Our children are dying of hunger, Chaka Chukwumerije, stop defying the voice of the people “.

Addressing the Secretary to the State Government, Emmanuel Meribole, who received the aggrieved women on behalf of the government, the women, led by Mrs. Nkechi Nnodimele, recounted the origin of the crisis.

According to her, in 2018, some individuals allegedly approached the community over a parcel of land located along Ubani Ibeku, claiming it would be developed into an estate.

She explained that the proposal was rejected by the community, particularly because the land serves as a major source of livelihood for the women, who depend on it for farming activities.

Nnodimele alleged that despite the rejection, the land was forcefully taken and has since remained undeveloped, and eventually becoming a settlement area for Fulani herders. She further lamented that recent developments have worsened the situation, as another portion of the land currently under cultivation by the women, was reportedly bulldozed, destroying crops including cassava.

“Our women depend on that land for survival. What was planted had not matured before everything was destroyed. We have no other land for farming or for future use. If we keep quiet, it means Umuda Isingwu no longer has land”, she said.

Responding, the SSG, Emmanuel Meribole, commended the women for their peaceful conduct and assured them that their grievances would be addressed. He noted that the matter is already known to the Commissioner for Lands, Chaka Chukwumerije.

Also speaking, the SSG disclosed that the Umuahia North Mayor, Smart Ihuoma, equally assured that he would engage relevant stakeholders on the matter, promising to visit the community within one week to assess the situation and provide solutions.

He stated further that they were already in contact with the community’s President General and reiterated the government’s commitment to resolving the issue.

The SSG also promised to brief Governor Alex Otti on the matter for prompt action.

Our reporter gathered that the women later visited the Umuahia North Local Government Council to see the Mayor of the area.

The post Fulani Herdsmen Have Taken Over Our Land, Abia Women Cry Out, Seek Govt Intervention first appeared on National Ambassador News.

“I can’t belong to a party that has caused Nigerians untold hardship”~ Ofoegbu Reveals, As He Resigns From APC

A prominent political figure in Abia State, Raymond Ofoegbu, popularly known as “Onyinye Ohuhu,” has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing moral conviction and the worsening socio-economic conditions in Nigeria.

In a resignation letter dated 11th of March, 2026, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of Umuhu Ward, in Umuahia North Local Government Area, Ofoegbu described his decision as one driven not by personal interest but by truth, justice, and the survival of the Nigerian people.

The politician, who is the founder of Onyinye Ohuhu Foundations International, lamented the current state of the nation, stating that Nigerians are grappling with severe economic hardship, rising cost of living, and systemic neglect.

In his words, “Nigeria is bleeding. The masses are groaning under unbearable hardship, economic suffocation, and systemic neglect. Families can no longer afford basic survival. Hope is fading”, he said.

Ofoegbu criticized what he described as a lack of empathy and responsiveness from leaders, warning that remaining silent in the face of such challenges would amount to betrayal.

According to him, despite the cries of the people that echo across every corner of the nation, those entrusted with leadership appeared unmoved.

“At a defining moment such as this, silence is betrayal. I refuse to be counted among those who watch while the people suffer”, he added.

Declaring a complete break from the ruling party, he stated that he would no longer associate himself, his family, or any political structure under his leadership with the APC.

Ofoegbu further rejected being counted among those who watch while the masses wallow in penury, adding that his name, energy and structure stand in contrast to the will and welfare of the people.

“History is recording, posterity is watching and I choose to be on the side of the people”, he stressed. Therefore, with a clear conscience and unshaken conviction, Onyinye Ohuhu, irrevocably denounced his membership from the ruling All Progressive Congress.

The resignation, he emphasized, marked the beginning of a renewed commitment to advocating for justice, equity, and the welfare of Nigerians.

“This marks not an end, but a beginning a renewed commitment to the liberation, dignity, and progress of our people,” Ofoegbu reveals.

His exit adds to the growing list of political realignments ahead of future electoral cycles, as concerns over governance and economic conditions continue to dominate national discourse

As at the time of this report, high Chief Raymond was yet to officially disclose the party he would be heading.

The post “I Can’t Belong To Party That Has Caused Nigerians Untold Hardship”~ Ofoegbu Reveals, As He Resigns From APC first appeared on National Ambassador News.

The leadership of Ngwa Road Market in Aba has embarked on a major sanitation exercise aimed at transforming the market into one of the cleanest trading hubs in the city.

The market administration, led by Chairman Hon. Munachimso Ejima, popularly known as “Okwuoto,” mobilised workers and equipment on Sunday to evacuate heaps of refuse from gutters and drainage channels along Adazi and Georges roads, as well as other adjoining streets within the market.

Mr. Munachimso Ejima

The exercise, which involved several tipper trucks, was carried out in line with the clean and green environmental policy of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti.

Speaking during the exercise, Ejima commended the governor for what he described as visionary leadership that has significantly improved environmental sanitation in Aba.

He noted that the market leadership was determined to support the state government’s efforts by maintaining a clean and healthy environment conducive for business activities.

According to him, the goal of the market administration is to make Ahia Ohuru (New Market) the cleanest market in Aba.

“This massive cleanup and desilting of gutters became necessary to remove dirt and refuse that blocked the drainage systems and caused environmental hazards,” Ejima said.

He also appealed to the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) to support the market by providing at least four refuse collection bins to be placed at strategic locations along the affected roads to encourage proper waste disposal.

The chairman further advised traders to desist from dumping refuse into drainage channels, warning that such practices contribute to flooding and environmental degradation.

Ejima disclosed that ten tipper trucks were already engaged in carting away the refuse, while four additional trucks were expected to arrive to ensure the evacuation of the large volume of waste between Sunday and Monday.

Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of the market, Sir Udochukwu Alexander, said traders always express satisfaction whenever such sanitation exercises are carried out.

He stressed the need for sustained sensitization campaigns to encourage traders to adopt proper waste management practices, while also reiterating the call for ASEPA’s intervention in the market.

Similarly, the Zonal Chairman of Georges Road, Mr. Offor Onyeka, revealed that the cleanup exercise is usually conducted twice a year but noted that the volume of refuse increased drastically after the removal of waste bins previously provided by ASEPA.

According to him, the bins were withdrawn following allegations against a waste handler, Mr. Abiola, who was reportedly arrested for collecting illegal levies from traders.

He appealed for the return of the refuse bins to help manage waste effectively in the market.

A trader, Mrs. Ebere Oyigwe, a spice dealer, expressed excitement over the sanitation exercise and commended the market leadership for the initiative.

She pledged the traders’ continued support for the administration and called for the establishment of a task force to identify and sanction shop owners who dump refuse in gutters.

Oyigwe also urged Governor Otti to investigate a substandard structure along Danfodio Road East leading to Ngwa Road Market, which she said obstructs the free flow of drainage and contributes to persistent flooding in the area, particularly around Georges Road.
