										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Abia State Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu has reiterated the desire of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu&#8217;s government to encourage the advancement of women in their bid to sustain and improve their livelihood in line with the World Bank Assisted benchmark.</p>

To this end, he announced that Governor lkpeazu has approved the release of counterpart fund of one hundred million Naria for the Nigeria For Women Project in the State to enable them sustain their leading position.<br />

<p>Sir Oko Chukwu who announced this during the first State Steering Committee Meeting of the Nigeria For Women Project held in his office at Government House, Umuahia also reiterates the present administration&#8217;s resolve to do all it can to empower Abia women to be independent and congratulated members of the Committee for reaching the 2021 target of forming 2000 Women Affinity Groups (WAGS).<br />

<p>The Deputy Governor restated that he will in his capacity as the Chairman of the State Steering Committee always encourage the advancement of women.</p>
<p>In her address, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Deaconess Rose Nna Urenta who disclosed that the project implementation stage is on the second component with Abia State granted approval to disburse the first individual grant to 1,623 beneficiaries said they have reached the target 2021 target of forming 2000 Women Affinity Groups and appreciated the Deputy Governor for their tremendous achievements through his support and purposeful leadership.<br />

<p>In her remarks, the Executive Secretary and Permanent Secretary, Abia State Planning Commission, Dr Mrs Nnenna Chikezie expressed delight at the high pace Abia is being rated among participating States in teaching women to be prudent and learn to improve on their saving capacity and called for more efforts to enable them sustain the success story.<br />

<p>Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, The Very Rev Mrs Jane Omereonye and the State Project Co-ordinator, Mrs Georgina Agbagah appreciated the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu for his commitment and support towards the success of the Nigeria For Women Project in the State as well as the State Government for approving the release of their counterpart funds.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Executive Secretary/Permanent Secretary Abia State Planning Commission, Dr. Mrs Nnenna Chikezie has said that 133 healthcare workers would be trained on food and nutrition in the state.</p>
<p>Dr Mrs Chikezie who was addressing members involved in the Abia food and nutrition work plan drawn from ministers of Agric, Education, Information, Women Affairs, RUWASA and the Federal Medical Centre, among others, recently in Umuahia, urged the members to cue into the committees new template as to ensure the success of the programme.</p>
<p>She said said that the committee must engaged in activities that impact positively on the citizenry and for for the committee to be repositioned for the good of the people.</p>
<p>She also disclosed that the committee has the responsibility to develop the States nutritional plan as well as coordinate food and nutrition activities at the state and local government level.</p>
<p>The Executive Secretary who is also the Permanent Secretary of the commission stressed the need for identification of problems of poor breast feeding and low level of compliance among women, expand the number of infant support in the 291 health centres across the state.</p>
<p>Mrs Chikezie also said that the work plan involved promoting child growth nutrition and health growth facilities, antenatal and post natal clinics, capacity building of the health workers among others.</p>
<p>Mrs Chikezie disclosed that they would partner with UNICEF, to achieve a lot in the work plan and that the citizens would be engaged in the activities of the committee.</p>
<p>In a vote of thanks, Mrs Clara Uchechi Azubuike of the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, said that the members of the committee can only make positive contributions to the work plan when the members understand what the work of the committee are all about.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Abia State Planning Commission, have emerged the best Performing Implementing Partner for the 2018, CRSO Programmes, under the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).</p>
<p>The award was presented to the Commission recently in Calabar, Cross River State during the UNFPA programme.</p>
<p>Speaking while presenting the award to the Executive Secretary/Permanent Secretary, Abia State Planning Commission, Dr (Mrs)Nnenna Chikezie, the Head of Abia Youth Employment and Social Support Operations, YESSO/ PWFPIU, Prince Friday Nwalozie said that the award spoke of volumes of the state participation and collaboration with UNFPA which has fast tracked the development of the state in terms of population figures.</p>
<p>Prince Nwalozie who has earlier received the award on behalf of the commission at the Calabar meeting of the United Nations agency said that UNFPA activities is centred on population figures and proper keeping of the statistical year book.</p>
<p>He disclosed of the approval of the Calabar conference of the selection of Abia among states qualified to start payment of his counterpart funding for the UNFPA programmes in the state.</p>
<p>Also speaking, the Director of Genda, Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs Chinyere Nwogugu, also said that the agency are involved in promoting genda awareness responsibility and control, disclosing that there is a bill before the State House of Assembly, that would give legal instrument to their activities.</p>
<p>Mrs Nwogugu, further stated that the sustainable natural development would be achieved by ensuring adequate population planning.</p>
<p>In her response, the Executive Secretary/Permanent Secretary, Abia State Planning Commission, Dr. Mrs Nnenna Chikezie, appreciated the agency for their award stating that it has remain the best award the commission has so far received.</p>
<p>Dr Mrs Chikezie, assured that Abia State government would continue to sustain the activities of the commission in each role to positively touch the lives of the people.</p>
