The Abia State Government, in collaboration with the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA), is set to provide free medical services to no fewer than 1,500 residents as part of a five-day medical outreach programme scheduled to commence in the state.

The initiative, which will run from April 13 to April 17, is aimed at expanding access to quality healthcare services, including consultations and surgeries, for residents across the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Prof. Enoch Uche, disclosed this at Government House Umuahia on Friday during a press briefing on the planned exercise.

Prof Uche said the outreach aligns with the healthcare vision of Governor Alex Otti, particularly in strengthening partnerships with physicians of Abia origin and other Nigerian medical professionals in the diaspora.

According to him, the programme is part of efforts by the State Government to deepen access to affordable and quality healthcare while advancing the goal of universal health coverage.

“As you may recall, health remains one of the priority sectors under the administration of His Excellency, Dr Alex Otti.

“One of the key mandates in the governor’s 11-point agenda is collaboration with physicians of Nigerian and Abia extraction residing abroad to support the delivery of high-quality and affordable healthcare services to our people”, he said.

The Commissioner explained that the governor had, in 2025, directed the Ministry of Health to work with ANPA to organise the 2026 edition of the outreach, following the success of a similar exercise in 2024.

He said the opening ceremony would hold on April 14 at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, at 12 noon, while clinical services would run from April 14 to April 17 at designated centres, including the Abia General Hospital and the Abia State Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Centre.

Prof Uche listed the services to be offered to include free medical consultations, general surgeries, gynaecological procedures and eye surgeries.

“We are expecting a team of about 25 doctors from the United States, who will work alongside our local medical personnel.

“Our target is to conduct at least 1,500 medical consultations and up to 100 surgeries within the period”, he said.

The Commissioner urged residents with health challenges, especially those requiring surgical procedures such as fibroid operations and other essential interventions, to take advantage of the opportunity.

He further disclosed that specialist ophthalmologists would also carry out free eye surgeries at the eye unit of the Abia State Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Centre, and commended the governor for providing the enabling environment and approving funds for logistics and other support services required for the programme.

Prof. Uche said ANPA would contribute medical expertise and consumables, while the State Government would provide operational logistics for the exercise.

He added that the outreach would also feature sexual and reproductive health education for young people, in line with ANPA’s outreach policy, aimed at equipping youths with information for informed life choices.

According to him, another component of the programme would involve the training of 80 health workers on basic life support and emergency response procedures.

“This training is critical in helping frontline health workers manage emergency cases such as cardiac arrest and unconscious patients, especially at peripheral health facilities”, he said.

Prof Uche also announced the commencement of the Abia Healthcare Rebirth Initiative, a programme designed to promote compassionate care, improved medical ethics and enhanced service delivery across the state’s health system.

He reassured residents that free medical consultations remained open to all, including those who had not undergone prior screening for surgical procedures.

Also speaking, the Coordinator of the Abia ANPA 2026 Medical Outreach, Dr Uloaku Ukaegbu, said all arrangements had been concluded for the exercise.

Dr. Ukaegbu disclosed that over 250 persons had already indicated interest in surgical procedures, adding that the list was currently under review to determine eligible cases.

She said prospective surgical patients would undergo screening and necessary investigations, while blood transfusion support, where required, would be provided free of charge.

The Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, has said he is seeking a second term in office because his administration still has “unfinished work” to complete, stressing that he would not have pursued re-election if his mission had been fully accomplished.

Governor Otti made this known on Monday, at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South, during a 10,000-man solidarity march organised by stakeholders from the area.

The rally was convened by the Labour Party House of Assembly candidate in the 2023 general elections, Mr Dannie Ubani.

According to the Governor, “if I had finished the work that I came to do, I wouldn’t be seeking a second term”, noting that significant work remains ahead in his administration’s quest to transform the State.

The Governor who acknowledged the importance of opposition in a democratic system, criticised certain opposition elements in the state, accusing them of engaging in what he described as “politics of witchcraft”.

He noted that it was culturally unacceptable within Igbo society to deny visible achievements such as completed road projects and other infrastructural developments.

Governor Otti also dismissed threats from what he termed “insignificant opposition elements”, which he said do not constitute up to five per cent of the state’s population and maintained that constructive criticism should focus on acknowledging existing achievements while offering better alternatives, rather than denying evident progress.

The Governor used the occasion to urge eligible citizens who are yet to register in the ongoing voters’ registration exercise to do so, warning that participating in political rallies without possessing a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) amounts to “a waste of time.”

He further encouraged members of the Labour Party to complete their e-registration and obtain membership cards to enable them participate in party primaries and support aspirants of their choice.

Reiterating his belief in divine authority, the governor reflected on his political journey, recalling the 2015 Abia State governorship election, which he said he won but was denied, and his eventual victory in the 2023 Abia State governorship election after what he described as “four days of fierce attempts” to thwart his mandate.

He stressed that power ultimately comes from God and that divine timing remains the best.

He expressed appreciation to the people for their continued support and commended the convener of the rally, Mr Dannie Ubani, for organising the event.

In his remarks, Mr Ubani said the rally was organised to demonstrate solidarity with the governor and showcase his leadership style and achievements.

He pledged unwavering support for Governor Otti’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dr Nwannunu stated that after observing the administration for a year, he became convinced that Governor Otti’s emergence was divinely orchestrated, prompting his decision to support the Governor.

He added that the governor’s achievements in road infrastructure and transport terminals, among others, would remain visible evidence of his legacy even after his tenure.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Abia State Governor on Due Process and Procurement, Dr. Oluebube A. Chukwu mnipr, has called on women professionals to actively champion gender inclusion by committing their time, talent, and resources to promote responsible communication and societal development.

Dr. Chukwu, a public relations expert, made the call while delivering a keynote address at the commemoration of International Women’s Day during the monthly meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Abia State Chapter, held in Umuahia today.

Speaking on the theme, “Give to Gain: Driving Gender Inclusion and Collective Growth Through Responsible Communication,” he urged women to communicate responsibly, listen actively, speak with empathy, and amplify women’s voices in leadership, governance, and business.

He emphasized that responsible communication remains a powerful tool for breaking stereotypes, promoting fairness, and creating inclusive opportunities for women in society.

According to him, the “Give to Gain” philosophy encourages professionals to contribute selflessly to their networks and communities by sharing knowledge, mentoring younger professionals, and supporting initiatives that promote collective growth.

Chukwu noted that empowering women is critical to Nigeria’s development, stressing that inclusive participation of women in decision-making leads to stronger communities, improved social outcomes, and sustainable economic progress.

The communication scholar also highlighted the benefits of membership of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, noting that it provides networking opportunities, professional certifications, industry insights, and platforms for career advancement.

He further encouraged women in public relations to mentor younger professionals, promote local businesses and cultural narratives, leverage social media for positive storytelling, and support digital literacy among women and youth.

Chukwu also celebrated the achievements of prominent Nigerian women, including Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization; Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, globally acclaimed writer; Obiageli Ezekwesili, policy expert and activist; Ibukun Awosika, business leader; and Nnenna Otti, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri.

He urged members of NIPR to embrace the “Give to Gain” principle as a pathway to strengthening the public relations profession and promoting gender-inclusive development in Abia State and Nigeria at large.

The Abia State Government has confirmed a rare medical feat at the retrofitted Ohiya Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC ) in Umuahia South Local Government Area, where a woman suffering from severe pregnancy complications (eclampsia) in a twin pregnancy was successfully delivered of her babies through an emergency caesarean section.

The patient, 24-year-old Mrs Chikamso Ibekwe, on Monday ,23rd March 2026, delivered twin boys weighing 3.2 kilogrammes each, in a successful procedure.

The State Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Uche, who disclosed this on Thursday, when he visited the PHC facility, described the development as a clear validation of the Governor Alex Otti’s ongoing healthcare reforms under Project Ekwueme initiative.

Prof Uche noted that the availability of modern equipment, drugs, oxygen and skilled personnel made it possible to manage the life-threatening condition at a Primary Healthcare level, which was hithertho unattainable.

The Commissioner explained that eclampsia remains one of the leading causes of maternal and infant mortality, noting that the patient’s condition could have resulted in multiple fatalities if not promptly managed by the medical personnel at the PHC.

He said; “On Monday 23rd March after Exco, the Ministry received a very, very heartwarming report that in one of the rural or semi-urban PHCs, a medical feat, so to say, occurred where a woman with a life-threatening obstetric emergency, described as eclampsia was successfully managed by emergency caesarean delivery.

“We want to make it clear that this is not just a hearsay. This is a confirmed medical occurrence.

“This can only be possible because there were facilities in this retrofitted PHC that could support emergency care and of course, the fact that we have competent nurses and a competent doctor who was on ground to handle this situation.

“This is actually a proof that the PHCs are yielding the desired dividend. If there is anybody in doubt, that the healthcare reforms of his Excellency, Gov Alex Otti are bearing fruits, this is one incontrovertible evidence.

“Because it has never been recorded in the history of this State, maybe in the history of healthcare that caesarean deliveries have become routine or easily performed for such big emergencies in a PHC. And it’s because there are facilities here”.

The Health Commissioner explained that the State is planning to introduce roving medical teams that can quickly respond to emergencies across communities, particularly in rural areas.

According to him, the initiative is aimed at strengthening emergency response, saving lives, and reducing maternal mortality, especially in critical situations where delays could be fatal.

Also speaking the doctor who carried out the procedure, Dr Joseph Ngene, explained that the patient arrived in critical condition with extreme high blood pressure and seizures adding that his team quickly stabilised the patient, stopped the seizures, and performed a successful emergency caesarean section, resulting in the safe delivery of the twins.

Dr Ngene

He added that the procedure was smooth and successful, with both mother and babies responding well to treatment.

Earlier, the Health Authority Secretary of Umuahia South LGA, Mrs Eucharia Igwe, attributed the success to the recent upgrade of the facility by the State Government’s intervention.

Mrs Eucharia Igwe

She said that the PHCBis now well-equipped with trained staff and functional units capable of handling emergencies and assured the community of quality service delivery.

Celebrating the strength, character, and timeless virtues that define true womanhood.

As the world celebrates International Women’s Day, it is a fitting moment to reflect on the timeless qualities that define true womanhood. Beyond achievements, beauty, or status, the strength of a woman is most clearly revealed in the values she carries within. These core values shape her character, guide her decisions, and influence the lives of those around her.

📌At the heart of a remarkable woman is faith. A woman who is spiritually grounded possesses an inner stability that sustains her through life’s uncertainties. Faith provides direction, purpose, and the assurance that her life is guided by something greater than herself.

📌Another essential value is integrity. Integrity is the quiet strength that keeps a woman truthful, dependable, and honorable. It means standing for what is right even when it is difficult, and remaining consistent in character whether in public or in private.

📌Closely connected to integrity is wisdom. Wisdom enables a woman to make sound decisions, speak thoughtfully, and navigate life with understanding. A wise woman knows when to speak, when to listen, and how to bring clarity and calm to difficult situations.

📌A truly admirable woman is also marked by compassion. Compassion allows her to see beyond herself and respond to the needs of others with kindness and empathy. Through simple acts of care and generosity, she becomes a source of comfort and encouragement in her community.

📌Equally important is strength and resilience. Life often presents challenges, but a strong woman rises above adversity with courage and determination. Her resilience allows her to transform obstacles into opportunities for growth.

📌A woman of value also practices self-respect. She understands her worth and refuses to compromise her dignity. Self-respect empowers her to set healthy boundaries and pursue relationships and opportunities that honor who she truly is.

📌Alongside self-respect comes humility. Humility keeps a woman open to learning and growth. It enables her to celebrate her achievements without pride and to acknowledge that every stage of life offers lessons worth embracing.

📌Another pillar of strong character is responsibility. A responsible woman takes ownership of her actions and commitments. Whether in her home, career, or community, she approaches her roles with dedication and accountability.

📌Diligence is also a defining value. A diligent woman understands that meaningful results often come from persistence and hard work. Through consistency and discipline, she steadily builds a life of purpose and impact.

📌Above all, the greatest value a woman can embody is love. Love is the force that inspires her to nurture, uplift, and support others. It is through love that she builds families, strengthens communities, and leaves a lasting legacy.

As we celebrate women today, it is worth remembering that the true beauty of a woman is found not merely in appearance but in the depth of her character. A woman who lives by these values becomes more than successful—she becomes a source of inspiration, strength, and positive influence in the world around her.

Radiance and elegance are not accidents—they are the result of intentional self-care. Every woman who desires a polished, youthful appearance should adopt certain body-care routines. Some can be practiced daily, while others are best done weekly.

These simple beauty tips will help elevate your overall look, improve skin texture, and project the confident, elegant version of yourself you’ve always envisioned.

1. Dark Underarms: To brighten dark underarms, use The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7%. Apply a small amount to the affected area, leave it on for a few minutes, then moisturize. Use twice weekly and remain consistent for visible results.

2. Cracked Heels: For cracked or flaky heels, apply glycolic acid overnight. Alternatively, use a pedicure brush or pumice stone to gently exfoliate dead skin and restore smoothness.

3. Hard Feet: To soften hard feet, apply Vaseline generously and wear socks overnight. Do this every night for two weeks, then switch to every other night for maintenance.

4. Dry Skin: For deeply moisturized skin, avoid towel-drying completely after bathing. Leave a little water on your skin and apply body oil while damp. This helps lock in moisture and keeps your skin hydrated long after the water dries.

5. Flaky Lips: Before applying matte lipstick, exfoliate your lips with a gentle lip scrub. This ensures a smooth, flawless finish instead of a flaky appearance.

6. Small or Dry Lips: For plump, hydrated lips, apply Vaseline overnight regularly.

7. Dandruff Control: If you struggle with dandruff, section your hair and apply glycolic acid to your scalp. Massage thoroughly, leave on for about 30 minutes, then wash off with a mild shampoo and moisturizing conditioner. Consistent use helps control dandruff effectively.

8. Personalized Skincare Routine: Your skincare routine should be tailored to your specific skin type, ideally with professional guidance. The right routine enhances glow and boosts self-confidence.

9. Soft, Shiny Hair: For softer, shinier hair, apply shea butter to damp hair and allow it to dry naturally. This simple step works wonders.

10. Clean Makeup Brushes: Always keep your makeup brushes clean to prevent bacteria buildup and skin breakouts.

12. Regular Facials: Incorporating regular facials helps your skincare products work more effectively and keeps your skin healthy and refreshed.

13. Longer-Lasting Fragrance: To make your perfume last all day, apply an unscented lotion or Vaseline to your pulse points before spraying your fragrance. This locks in the scent.

Wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti

At the grand finale of the 2025 Abia Women August Delegate Conference, 340 women were financially empowered to start their businesses.

The announcement was made by the wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, the state capital.

Mrs. Otti explained that the financial support will enable the women to grow their trades, farms, and enterprises, ensuring food security and dignity in their homes.

“When women thrive, families flourish, communities prosper, and societies advance,” she stated.

Beneficiaries of the skill up Abia women programme

Reflecting on the LGA-level August Meetings, Mrs. Otti expressed that they were held with pomp, pageantry, and glamour with women showcasing the work of their hands, farm produce, handcrafted goods, and homemade delicacies—sharing generously from their sweat and labour in the truest expression of our theme, ‘Abia Women: United in Strength, Empowered for Purpose’.

Highlighting the impact of the Skill Up Abia Women Project, Mrs. Otti noted that on August 12th—International Youth Day—54 young women graduated from Vivdak Catering & Events Institute after training in catering, pastries, and decoration. Each graduate also received startup support to launch their businesses.

She called the initiative a seed for economic transformation among Abia women, promising that more cohorts will follow.

Mrs. Otti urged women to continuously acquire new skills, innovate, and embrace leadership roles. She also praised Governor Alex Otti and partners for their commitment to empowering women and uplifting the state.

In her address, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Maureen Aghukwa, described the gathering as more than a tradition—it is a grassroots parliament where women from across Abia State come together to discuss pressing issues affecting homes, communities, and society at large.

Dr. Maureen Aghukwa

Dr. Aghukwa emphasized the significance of the event, noting that over the years, it has served as a unified platform for women to advocate for peace, moral values, social progress, and development.

According to her, “this year theme, ‘Abia Women: United in Strength, Empowered for Purpose ‘ is timely and inspiring.

It reminds us that as women, our collective strength lies in our unity, and our empowerment is not for ourselves alone but for the fulfillment of God’s purpose in our communities, and our State,” she stated.

Delivering the keynote address, Professor Joy Onyesoh praised the transformational nature of the conference in mobilizing women for dialogue and development.

She urged women to continue investing in skills regardless of their occupation and applauded the Abia First Lady for the “Skill Up Abia Women” initiative, which supports women’s empowerment.

In a goodwill message, Ms. Dimach Sharon of the International Organization for Migration reaffirmed her organization’s commitment to supporting women as agents of change.

She highlighted the love, resilience, and innovation of Nigerian women and commended Governor Alex Otti for creating a platform that allows women to reinvent themselves through the August Meeting.

Meanwhile, Governor Otti, who graced the occasion with other top government officials said women play an integral role in national development noting that a gathering like this reminds us that the society is incomplete until we bring women on board.

He thanked Abia women for the sacrifices they are making in the home front adding that he will continue to support them.

Abia State Government has announced plans to commission and flag off a total of 55 projects across the State in the coming weeks as part of its massive social transformation agenda.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, revealed this on Monday, while briefing Journalists on the outcome of the Executive Council Meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

Prince Kanu stated that the move is in line with Governor Otti’s promise to accelerate development in the State following his administration’s second anniversary.

“We will witness an unprecedented commissioning of projects in the State. From all indications in the next few weeks, a total number of 55 projects will either be commissioned or flagged off.

“A breakdown shows that 42 projects will be commissioned, while 13 new projects will be flagged off.

“This brings the number to a total of 55 in all. You would agree with me that this is quite unprecedented to say the least. In one fell swoop to commission or flag off this number of projects.

Speaking at the event, held at the International Conference Center Umuahia, Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, lauded the First Lady of Nigeria for her compassion and unwavering support for vulnerable Nigerians amid the current economic challenges facing the country.

The Governor highlighted his administration’s commitment to social welfare, noting that one of his first actions in office was the creation of the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection.

According to him, the Ministry collaborates with international and local partners to implement holistic programs that support women, youths, and vulnerable groups across the state.

“In several communities, women cooperative groups have been set up to access grants and zero to low interest rate facilities to establish businesses along the agricultural value chains.

“Our conviction is that many of the individuals living in economic vulnerabilities can still add value to our GDP by engaging in productive ventures”, Gov Otti said.

The Governor expressed support of his administration for the Renewed Hope Initiative, emphasizing that while palliative programs are valuable, long-term solutions are essential.

He stressed the need for a “realistic path” to overcome poverty, joblessness, and economic hardship.

“The goal at all times should be to keep reducing the number of persons living below the poverty line by offering the population a path to economic sustainability and ultimately independence”, he noted.

In her address earlier, Sen Oluremi Tinubu, said that the food outreach scheme, which began on March 8, 2024, in the Federal Capital Territory, has since reached 11 States and the FCT, including Benue, Cross River, Oyo, Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Gombe, Kano, Kogi, Kwara, and Nasarawa.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony held at the Enyimba Stadium Aba, Governor Alex Otti who commended the life-changing initiative and model of inclusive empowerment, emphasized the need to empower youths inorder to be self reliant.

He announced plans to upscale the state’s skills acquisition initiative to empower over 5000 beneficiaries in two phases.

“So the first of 2,000 is gone another 3,000 is coming and I have challenged Rosie(Country Director of MasterCard Foundation) after the 3,000 we will be doing 5,000.

“The challenge is “do we have a market?”, the answer is yes. We have a market in Abia, Nigeria, West Africa and in the rest of the world”, Gov Otti noted.

The Governor applauded the MasterCard Foundation and Ethnocentrique Limited for their commitment to the programme, which has run successfully for the past 10 months.

“There can’t be anything better than this. I want to thank you. I am so happy with the outcome of this entire process. I have also been told that 100 per cent of the 2,000 already have jobs.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has officially flagged off the reconstruction and remodeling of 200 Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) across the State.

The initiative, codenamed “Project Ekwueme,” aims at rebuilding and functionalizing 200 PHCs across the State’s 184 Wards within 100 days as well as significantly improve access to quality healthcare, particularly in rural communities.

Speaking at the event held at the Primary Health Centre, Ngwu Uzuakoli, Bende Local Government Area, Governor Otti reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to quality healthcare as the foundation for sustainable development.

The Governor said that the initiative would, among other things, reduce the people’s exposure to quacks and fake drugs and effectively improve good health and longevity for the general populace.

“This initiative has been tagged “Project Ekwueme” by our team at the State Ministry of Health because it practically speaks to our commitment to fulfilling the key promises we made to change the healthcare delivery landscape in the State for the better,” the Governor highlighted.

He further noted that the “Project Ekwueme” initiative would feature Independent Power Supply from Renewable Energy sources, efficient Water Supply System, and other state-of-the-art support infrastructure to improve the operational environment, preserve drug supplies and medical consumables, which would ultimately save costs for the Government and its partners.

He assured that only high-quality materials would be used for the construction process, adding that contractors would provide post-construction maintenance at the facilities for at least five years.

“We shall not tolerate any form of mediocrity as every contractor would be required to provide post-delivery infrastructure maintenance services at the facilities for at least five years,” Gov. Otti said.

Governor Otti, who used the opportunity to highlight his administration’s strides in the Health sector over the past 20 months, emphasized that an effective healthcare delivery system in all parts of the State is central to his governance agenda which he said is focused on improving the social and economic realities of the people.

“We appreciate that our pursuit of social prosperity will come to nothing if access to quality health services is not guaranteed for every demographic group scattered across over 500 urban and rural communities in the State.

“This awareness explains the decision of the present administration to prioritise the revitalisation of the healthcare delivery architecture in all parts of the State,” Otti stated.

He said that his Government has committed greater resources to the training of new professionals as captured in the 2025 Appropriation Act, where a princely sum of N8.6 billion has been earmarked for the construction of the permanent site of the Abia State College of Health Science and Management Technology Aba.

“We have also made a N5 billion provision for construction projects at the new College of Nursing Sciences at the Umunneato General Hospital while another N3 billion will go into the construction of classroom blocks at the School of Nursing and Midwifery Amachara,” the Governor disclosed.

He, therefore, called on Abians to support the State Government’s efforts by paying their taxes, protecting public infrastructure, and reporting any activities that threaten public peace and security and pointed out that his Government remains committed to serving and working for the collective good of all residents of the State.

In his speech, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Enoch Uche, emphasized that the primary objective of the Government for embarking on the project focuses on bringing Healthcare closer to the people and described the project as an intervention and avenue for delivering democracy dividend to the people.

“This project, with a whopping cost of N10,784,805,066.70, covers sites that are identifiable when you move around Abia. Clearly making the state a healthcare construction site,” Uche said.

In a remark, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Mrs. Ngozi Azodo, said that the ”Project Ekwueme” has been designed to have three phases, which include ‘200 PHCs in 100 days, the proof of concept for Abia Medical City, and the transitioning to the College of Medicine.’

In their separate speeches, the Lawmaker representing Bende South Constituency, Mr. Emmanuel Ndubuisi, and the Chairman of Bende LGA, Mr. Uwabunkeonye Bassey, thanked the government for the project and pointed out that the initiative would improve access to quality healthcare services in addition to reducing the mortality rate in the area.

Also, the President of Uzuakoli Development Association, Mr. Prince Okechukwu, appealed to the State Government to intervene in the constant destruction of crops and farm produce by cattle herders in the area, evolve programmes and policies that boost agricultural productivity as well as rehabilitate the rural roads in the community to enable the farmers to access their farmlands with ease.

Earlier, the Health Officer in Charge of Ngwu PHC, Mrs. Ihuoma Kalu, who recalled the state of despair of the Ngwu PHC, described the Project Ekwueme as a dream come true and thanked the Governor for changing the ugly narrative.

The post Gov Otti Flags Off Reconstruction Of 200 PHCs In 100 Days Under “Project Ekwueme” first appeared on National Ambassador News.

If I told you that looking your best always will be easy, then I would be lying to you. Because it is definitely not. It takes effort, energy, time, and planning; it takes being intentional. And you will not always feel like that. There will be days you just want to be yourself and head out of the door, but guess what? Those are the days you may run into someone very important, someone you would want to meet, looking your very best. And because you are not in your best outlook, you will feel insecure, uneasy, and self-conscious around them. Trust me, from personal experience, it does not feel good.
Therefore, in this edition, I have listed out some micro tips that will help you appear classy and elegant always.

HAVE A SELF-CARE SCHEDULE

Self care

This entails having a proper schedule for personal grooming. For instance: know how long you can carry your hair before you go for maintenance. The same applies to other self-care routines like pedicures, manicures, spa treatments, facial treatments, etc.
This means you no longer wait for your hair or nails to get bad before you get them done. You already have a schedule for your beauty routines, and when it’s time, you go for it.

SHORT NUDE-COLORED NAILS

Short nude nails

This is specifically for those who are working on a very tight budget or those who do jobs that give them little or no time for regular self-care routines. Short nude nails last longer than bright colors. This is because brighter shades like red, blue, green, purple, etc., will be so conspicuous when they get old and start growing out. And when that happens, it looks tacky. Of course, no elegant lady will like to be caught with dirty, old nails.
But when the nude nails get old and grow out, they are almost unnoticeable.
It is also advisable to have a nail kit. This kit is a small bag that contains all the nail accessories like nail glue, nail polish (at least the basic colors), nail file, nail cuticle, nail buffer, nail dissolver, and nail cutter. This helps you to do a quick fix before going to your nail technician.

HAVE A GO-TO OUTFIT FOR LAZY DAYS

Outfit for a lazy day

I also like to call this outfit your-tested-and-trusted-outfit, or your-when-in-doubt-outfit. This is the type of outfit that you do not spend so much time and effort to wear, yet it makes you appear elegant, well put together, and comfortable. It is the kind of outfit that, each time you wear it, someone must compliment your looks. It does not make you look any less or demean your personality. Planning an outfit takes a lot of effort, and you will not always feel that way. That is why you need go-to outfits. And make sure you have accessories to match with them.

HAVE ANOTHER MAKEUP ROUTINE THAT TAKES LESS TIME

This tip will help you save time and energy. You can agree with me that it really takes a lot to apply full/proper makeup on a normal day. The exigency involved can be draining, and that is not what you would like to pass through on a day you want to appear casual.
Therefore, you need another makeup routine that probably requires a few cosmetics and less time, and you will still look spiffy. Personally, on such days, I use only face powder, eye pencil, nude lip gloss, upper eyeliner, and I am good to go!

DRESS FOR YOUR BODY SHAPE

Dress for your body shape

The way you dress is extremely important. You are judged by how you dress. Choose clothes that enhance your looks. Do not be apologetic about it. If it fits perfectly, then go for it. Avoid wearing clothes because you like how they look on the other person. Go for your perfect fit.

HAIR

Simple hair tools

Having a few hair tools at home comes in handy, especially at times when you are not ready to go to the salon.
Natural Hair: You need to have one natural hairstyle that you can make easily by yourself. With the hair tools you have, you can always style your hair and be good to go.

Natural hair style

Wigs: It is good to always have one wig that is styled and ready to be used for the week. When you do not have the time to go to the salon, you can easily wear it.

Wig.

Braids: I advise you to make braids that can last longer, say 3 to 4 weeks. This style of braids should be easy to park in different ways, just so you do not have the same facial look all the time.

Braids

CHOOSE TIMELESS PIECES OVER TRENDY PIECES

Timeless piece

These are the types of clothing that are universally flattering and very easy to style. They include the cut, color, and fabrics.
Elegance is timeless. So in your fashion, you need to look out for those timeless pieces that fit perfectly. Please do not get it twisted. I did not say you must not wear trendy outfits. You may add some trendy pieces to your fashion, but let it be subtle—let’s say 80 percent timeless and 20 percent trends.
You do not want to be caught up in the trends.

PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS
There are little, insignificant things that can mar your appearance. Such things are wearing rumpled clothes, clothes that have holes or tears, worn-out colors, fading jewelry, and peeling shoes. Please do not ignore these things.

COMMIT TO YOUR APPEARANCE
You have to decide that you are going to start taking pride in your appearance. Before you step out, ask yourself, “Do I look good in what I am wearing? Am I good enough to face anyone today?” If your answer is YES, then you are good to go!
Finally, remember, you are not looking good to necessarily impress others. You are looking good because of the power your appearance has over you. When you look good, you will definitely feel good, confident, and be more productive.

The post TIPS TO MAKE YOU LOOK ELEGANT AND CLASSY ALWAYS first appeared on National Ambassador News.

Governor Alex Otti’s administration has demonstrated a commitment to inclusivity, particularly in terms of gender and disability.

In terms of gender inclusivity, Otti’s administration has made notable strides. During the appointment process for members of his cabinet, Dr. Alex Otti thought it wise to appoint reputable, impeccable, diligent, God-fearing, and dedicated women to positions of trust. One notable example is the appointment of women to key positions in the state, such as two former Heads of Service, Lady Joy Maduka and Dr. Mrs. Queen Obioma, to assist in driving his administration’s agenda for public and civil servants. This move indicates the government’s willingness to partner with women. Various stakeholders, including the Traveling Mothers for a New Abia, a non-governmental organization, commended this great move by Governor Otti’s administration.

The former Acting Head of Service, during her tenure in office, praised the Governor for prioritizing women’s inclusion, stating that the role of women in nation-building cannot be underestimated. She emphasized that women’s inclusion in governance is crucial for socio-economic growth, as women are the backbone of families and communities.

Governor Otti also appointed Mrs. Ngozi Phillips as the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, understanding the importance of inclusivity and a holistic approach toward tackling gender-based violence (GBV) and addressing the issues affecting the girl child. He further divided the Ministry of Women Affairs into the Ministry of Women Affairs and the Ministry of Poverty Reduction and Social Protection to ensure that women, the visually impaired, and vulnerable groups were given serious attention to thrive.

The two ministries are currently occupied by two dedicated women. In addition, he appointed women to various positions to complement his administration’s commitment to quality service delivery.

Regarding disability inclusivity, Governor Otti has been vocal about promoting the rights and participation of persons with disabilities. He condemned the exclusion of people with disabilities from governance. The administration has taken steps to support people with disabilities, such as appointing individuals with disabilities to government positions and sponsoring para-sports events. All these efforts demonstrate Governor Otti’s commitment to creating a more inclusive administration where diverse groups have equal opportunities to participate and contribute.

Meanwhile, some key areas where women office holders have made an impact in Governor Otti’s administration include:

Healthcare: Women have been appointed to key positions in the healthcare sector, contributing to the refurbishment of decaying healthcare facilities and the construction of new ones.

Education: Women have played a crucial role in the renovation of schools, improvement of teacher training, and the launch of scholarship programs.

Economic Empowerment: Governor Otti’s administration has launched various initiatives aimed at economically empowering women, including skill acquisition programs and job creation schemes.

Overall, the performance of women office holders in Governor Otti’s administration has been impressive, and their contributions have been recognized and appreciated by various stakeholders.

Furthermore, Otti’s administration has demonstrated a commitment to promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality through various initiatives, including:

Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development: Responsible for implementing policies and programs aimed at promoting women’s welfare and social development.

Abia State Women Development Center: Provides training and employment programs for women, focusing on skills acquisition and economic development.

Child Welfare and Social Services Department: Works to protect the rights and welfare of children and vulnerable groups in Abia State.

World Gender Equality Day: Abia State has joined the United Nations in celebrating World Gender Equality Day with events aimed at promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Empowerment Programs: Implemented various employment programs, including skill acquisition training and economic development initiatives, to support women’s economic empowerment.

Gender-Based Violence: Acknowledged the prevalence of gender-based violence and taken steps to address the issue through policy and program initiatives.

Patriarchal Land Practices: Recognized the need to address patriarchal land practices that limit women’s access to land and economic opportunities.

Mrs. Priscilla Otti, the wife of the Abia State Governor, has affirmed her commitment to empowering young women and promoting the state’s cultural heritage.

This affirmation was made at her country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State, during a courtesy visit by Miss Ugonma Ogbonnaya, the first runner-up at Miss Diaspora Nigeria, USA 2024, and Best Cultural Costume winner.

Congratulating Miss Ogbonnaya on her exceptional achievements on the international stage, Mrs. Otti praised the first runner-up for showcasing Abia’s rich cultural heritage. She described her victory in the Best Cultural Costume category as a proud moment for Abia and Nigeria at large.

The Abia First Lady also commended Miss Ogbonnaya for her passion and dedication to using her platform to inspire young people, particularly women, to embrace their heritage and achieve their dreams.

She lauded her for conducting a medical outreach in Igbere, Bende LGA, and assured her of her willingness to partner with her in other initiatives that align with the vision of the Alex Otti administration.

Mrs. Otti further encouraged Miss Ogbonnaya to remain focused and steadfast in her mission to empower the younger generation, especially in tackling issues like gender-based violence (GBV), which her office prioritizes.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, Hon. Matthew Ekwuruibe, extolled Miss Ogbonnaya’s accomplishments, describing her as a shining example of the talent and potential that abound in Abia State.

He emphasized the importance of promoting the state’s culture and creative industries, adding that her achievements on the global stage have brought honor to Abia and Nigeria.

Ekwuruibe further highlighted the ministry’s resolve to partner with Miss Ogbonnaya on cultural and creative initiatives, noting that such collaborations would not only showcase Abia’s rich heritage but also provide opportunities for young people to excel in arts and culture.

Earlier, Miss Ogbonnaya emphasized her vision to create programs that inspire and empower young women to pursue their aspirations while staying connected to their roots.

She expressed her gratitude to Governor Alex Otti and Mrs. Priscilla Otti for the support and opportunities given to her to represent Abia State on the global stage.

Accompanying Miss Ogbonnaya on the visit was Mrs. Matilda Anyamele, Special Assistant to the Governor on Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, alongside other government officials.

In this part of the world, where the weather is usually dry and windy at this period of the year, there are some items every lady should have in their bags. I call them the handbag essentials for Harmattan.

A handbag is one of the necessary items in every woman’s fashion accessories. It is, as a matter of importance, the topmost item on the list of accessories to have in everyday fashion.

A handbag houses many items, including toiletries and cosmetics. Nevertheless, the contents could vary, depending on the weather, occasion, or the personality of the one carrying it.

In this edition, we shall be looking at the core items that every elegant lady’s bag should contain, especially during Harmattan.

In this part of the world, where the weather is usually dry and windy at this period of the year, there are some items every lady should have in their bags. I call them the handbag essentials for Harmattan.

BREATH FRESHENERS:

Breath freshener

This could come in the form of chewing gum or mints. They help to keep one’s breath fresh. Some people have the opinion that chewing gum in public makes one look like a goat, but that’s not absolutely right. If you must chew gum, please learn how to do so elegantly. Don’t wind your mouth vigorously, don’t chew with your mouth open, and don’t let the next person beside you hear the sound. These are the things that are irritating about chewing gum.

LIPGLOSS:

Lipgloss

This is another essential item that should make it to your handbag in this season of dry weather. It helps to keep your lips moist and glossy. It is not a good sight to go about with dried or cracked lips. It demeans your personality as an elegant woman.

POCKET TISSUE:

Pocket Tissue

This is very important and helpful, especially in this dry season. It comes in handy when you want to dab your face of some sweat, clean the surface of something before sitting/resting your hand on it, or when you want to use a public restroom. It can also be used to clean off dust from your shoes—you definitely do not want to be seen wearing a dusty pair of shoes. And nobody will care to know how long a distance you walked. So, pocket tissue is an essential item to have in your handbag.

A SMALL MAKE-UP PURSE:

Makeup purse

This will contain some touch-up essentials like powder, lipstick, etc. These are things that will help you maintain your glow throughout the day. So, you put them in a small purse to keep your handbag well organized, and it also makes it easier for you to locate and use them. You don’t want to be seen scattering or turning your handbag upside down in search of one tiny makeup item.

HAND CREAM:

Hand cream

For the times when you’ll wash your hands, you definitely need to moisturize with a good hand cream to avoid having dried, chapped hands. It helps to keep your hands soft and smooth.

HAND SANITIZER:

Hand sanitizer

Always ensure you have a small bottle of hand sanitizer in your bag. It comes in handy when you find yourself in a place where you can’t wash your hands, or when you feel you’ve done a lot of handshakes and need to keep your hands clean and fresh. Again, remember it is always dusty everywhere due to Harmattan. So, as a matter of importance, keep your hands sanitized.

A PAIR OF SUNGLASSES:

Sunglasses

This is absolutely essential, especially in this dry season when the sun is so harsh and scorching. You need to wear it to protect your eyes from the sun’s rays. And if you are the kind of person who doesn’t wear makeup regularly, you can use sunshades to elevate your looks.

WALLET:

Wallet

This item might look ignoble, but it is essential, especially for handbags that don’t have compartments. A wallet can be used for your ID card, ATM card, and cash. It is wise to always have some cash with you. You can never tell when you’ll need it to tip a waiter, be kind to a traffic warden, or even pay for something quickly if there’s bad network for transfers. Always have physical cash handy.

AIRPODS:

Airpod

Every lady should have AirPods for when you want to take calls or listen to music without disturbing and interrupting the peace of those around you. Did you know that always putting your phone on your ear while answering calls, especially when you’re wearing makeup, makes your phone dirty and, of course, wipes off the makeup on the side of your face where you take calls? So now you know, you have to add AirPods as an important item in your handbag.

Feel free to add any other items to your handbag, as occasion warrants. As I said earlier, these essentials may vary depending on the individual, occasion, or weather condition.

The post Handbag Essentials for the Harmattan Season first appeared on National Ambassador News.

Child trafficking, baby factories, and gender-based violence remain societal evils that must be eradicated. These heinous crimes, which primarily target women and children, leave devastating effects and threaten societal values.

In Abia State, the First Lady, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has taken a firm stand against these crimes, initiating interventions to curb them and provide support for victims.

On June 4, 2023, less than a month into Governor Alex Otti’s administration, 21 pregnant teenagers and two babies were rescued during a raid at the now-defunct Nma Charity and Social Mother’s Rehabilitation Centre in Umunkpeyi Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA. The operation was carried out by the 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Ohafia.

Condemning the act, Mrs. Otti called for a clampdown on illegal orphanages and charity homes that serve as fronts for such crimes. She collaborated with the state government to ensure mechanisms were put in place to apprehend and prosecute perpetrators.

“We are geared up to ensure that Abia State will no longer be comfortable for the perpetrators of baby factories and human trafficking to operate,” Mrs. Otti stated.

On March 7, 2024, the Rapid Response Squad of the Abia State Police Command rescued 16 pregnant women from a baby factory in Aba, following credible intelligence. Mrs. Otti strongly denounced the practice, describing it as appalling, and commended the collaborative efforts of security agencies in the state.

The rescued victims were rehabilitated and empowered through the Ministry of Women Affairs. Non-indigenes among them were counseled, financially supported, and reunited with their families, while four indigent Abians were stabilized and empowered to start businesses.

Mrs. Otti detailed some empowerment stories:
– Miss Precious Ndubuisi, interested in selling fashion materials, was provided a shop, 23 vintage fabrics, and a ₦120,000 grant.
– Miss Blessing Otuonye, interested in poultry farming, received a poultry house, 100 chicks, chicken feed, equipment, and a ₦120,000 grant.
– Miss Mary Monday, interested in hairstyling, was equipped with a shop, hair accessories, and a ₦120,000 grant.
– Miss Faith Chinaza, interested in foodstuff sales, received a shop, supplies, and a ₦120,000 grant.

Mrs. Otti ensured that the beneficiaries were mentored and monitored to ensure sustainable business growth.

On gender-based violence (GBV), Mrs. Otti has championed efforts to support survivors and punish perpetrators. One case involved Mrs. Amarachi Lawrence from Umuahia North LGA, who suffered severe abuse at the hands of her husband. Mr. Lawrence was apprehended and handed over to law enforcement, while Mrs. Otti visited the victim, supported her treatment, and made a cash donation.

The First Lady has partnered with key stakeholders, including the police and the Ministry of Justice, and worked with the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) to combat GBV.

At a summit in Umuahia marking the end of the 16 Days of Activism Against GBV in 2024, Mrs. Otti stressed the need for a united approach to ending violence.

“It demands a united, multisectoral approach involving every stakeholder, government, civil society organizations, law enforcement agencies, healthcare providers, educators, and community members,” she said.

Under her leadership, the state has inaugurated the GBV Response Team and Management Committee to ensure coordinated responses, timely intervention, and support for survivors. The state also established a GBV Victim Support Fund to provide legal aid, medical care, counseling, and shelter.

Mrs. Otti emphasized strengthening awareness campaigns, training law enforcement, and partnering with NGOs and community leaders to challenge cultural norms perpetuating violence. She also expressed delight at the domestication of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law in Abia State.

“As the First Lady of Abia State, I remain deeply committed to this cause. Together, through our multisectoral efforts, operationalizing the VAPP law, and with unwavering determination, we will end GBV and build a future where the rights, dignity, and safety of every individual are upheld,” she declared.

Mrs. Otti’s initiatives extend to youth and women empowerment, education grants, healthcare improvements, and community market development. She has visited and donated to schools for the blind, correctional facilities, orphanages, and remand homes in the state.

Additionally, she has partnered with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to address drug abuse, focusing on rehabilitation efforts for affected individuals.

The Abia State Chapter of the Igbo Women Assembly has been charged with the need to promote the Igbo language and restore the dignity of Igbo cultural heritage.

The former Acting Executive Director of the National Roots Crop Research Institute (NRCRI) Umudike, Dr. Godwin Asumugha, made this call during the inauguration of the Abia State Chapter of the Igbo Women Assembly held in Umuahia recently. He also urged the group to support the advocacy for promoting Igbo rich cultural heritage and the use of the mother tongue.

Dr. Asumugha expressed regret that the Igbo language and its rich cultural heritage and values are gradually going into extinction, with many households finding it difficult to communicate in Igbo.

He disclosed that urgent measures must be taken to arrest the ugly situation from escalating and tasked the Igbo Women Assembly to put in their best in restoring the dignity of Igbo cultural heritage.

He commended the President of the Igbo Women Assembly, Lolo Nneka Chimezie, and her team for their doggedness and commitment to advancing the cause of the Igbo nation and encouraged the use of the mother tongue.

Earlier in her address, the President of the Igbo Women Assembly, Lolo Nneka Chimezie, said that the Igbo socio-cultural organization was established in 2008 with an emphasis on promoting the Igbo language and its rich cultural heritage, as well as creating platforms to enable women to access loans to enhance their businesses.

In their remarks, a lecturer at the Igbo National Institute for Languages, Aba, Prof. Nkechinyere Ohaike, and a former commissioner in the state, Lady Elizabeth Uhegbu, urged the women to unite in their efforts to save Igbo culture and language while contributing to national development.
